Sometimes I revert back to being 23.
Especially around this girl.
I have been friends with this girl for approximately 75% of my life.
We met at school and played softball together for years. One year we decided she’d be number 6 and I’d be number 9 (we’re still that mature). My dad coached our teams and one day commented that Mallory was “a little rough around the edges.” We still laugh about it.
Who knew that this many years later she’d have three kids, all 6 and under? That I’d actually get married? That my dad would have been gone 10 years? That she’d be flying up from FLA for a girls weekend with me?
Naturally, we started the weekend with a nose piercing (hers) and ended the first night by doing bourbon luge shots using the (empty) bone from our bone marrow appetizer at the Golden Eagle with my mom. Who knew that would happen? For the record, it was our server’s suggestion. #sorryimnotsorry
This #WIAW is a small glimpse into our weekend shenanigans. 😉
Be sure to link up to Jenn’s WIAW baby at the bottom!
Breakfast:
As always, I made my morning cocktail.
There’s a really great patio at this place called Einstein’s (not the bagel place). The food isn’t the best, but that patio is well worth a brunch visit. (Shhhh…)
We immediately hit that up for brunch. I chose the egg white omelet – extra hot sauce – and a side salad. I like to start the day sort of healthy… especially when I know what’s in store. HA!
Lunch:
We headed down the Beltline for some exercise… and to find a beer… follow by lunch. If you’re ever in Atlanta, get on the Beltline at Piedmont Park and walk it *at least* to Krog Street Market. The art is ever-changing. I took this shot for Meghan. Sad it wasn’t up when the #publicbanana queen came for a visit!
Upon stopping for beers, we carried on down the Beltline until we reached Krog Street Market. Our goal was to make it to one of my favorite restaurants there – Superica. We’re huge Tex-Mex fans and this is my favorite spot in ATL. We basically had chips, salsa, guac, and tequila for lunch.
Don’t mind the fact that Mallory ruined my shot with her bright-ass nails. 😉
Dinner:
For dinner, we went to a local Italian place. I’ve eaten there once before and loved it… this time it was a little off. I think they we overwhelmed with the crowd that came in from the rain.
We didn’t really care. We had wine and beef tartare. What could go wrong?
Obviously, we ended up back at my house with more wine, a rousing game of Evil Minds, and hot cookies delivered to our door. More proof that, no matter how old you are, some things never change.
Except at this age you remember to drink water. 😉

We’ve decided to do this every two months. The spouses have been warned.
How long have you known your best friend?
What is your favorite place to take people in your city? I can’t get enough of the Beltline!
Patrick@looneyforfood.com says
WOW! that is an amazing friendship and looks like a hell of a visit! I take my friends to the beach here, thats really all there is. haha
Laura says
The beach isn’t a bad place to take people either! 😉

This is so great! It’s so important to have at least one good friend who has known you for 75% of your life! I find that as I get older there are only a few friends who remember my mom and it’s so special to have that to shared memory with someone who isn’t family 🙂
That Beltline area sounds like my dream come true!! Someday, someday…
And I have to say I’m disappointed Vegas shot down the nose piercing for you. Your face was made for it!!
Laura says
I couldn’t agree more. Those people you don’t even really have to say it out loud to are gold.
You would LOVE the Beltline. It’s the perfect run – relatively flat and so much to look at. Open invitation!
Vegas said “don’t put shit in your face.” LOL!
Cora says
So awesome. So so awesome.
I would definitely take a visitor to one of my favorite parks and trails. And if they were up for bone marrow shots…. why not!
Laura says
My MOM actually told us we have to try it. Such a good influence. 😉
Jennifer says
Looks like y’all had fun! I’ve known my best friend for 32 years, it’s my hubby!
Laura says
Awwwww… *gag*
(Kidding – that’s super sweet. XO)
Jess @ Jessica Cording Nutrition says
This looks like such a fun day! My best friends are so scattered that we don’t get together much, but I’ve known them since we were, like, 5.
Laura says
It’s so much harder to stay connected when you’re older. Thank god for internet!
Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says
I love getting together with old friends who just understand you, no matter how crazy. What a yummy weekend of eats!
Laura says
That’s the perfect summary of our friendship. 🙂
Joann @ Woman in Real Life says
Oh my gosh, sounds like you guys had so much fun! Gotta stay young right? And I’m wanting that tequila and chips lunch now, haha.
Laura says
Forever young! Annnnd 2 day hang over… because old. 😉

If I come to the next one, can we call it Moms Gone Wild. I’m so glad you had a blast, and I’m so happy Mallory got a minute (or weekend) away. Cheers ladies!
Laura says
You would have had SO much fun! Mwah!
Lindsay says
Wait? I’m not your BFF?
Fine! But then you must deliver me
That steak tartare. Drooling
Laura says
I mean… my HIGH SCHOOL BFF. 😉
I really feel we need a reunion. Somewhere with wine and tartare.
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
I think when most folk come to Perth they want to see the beaches. I don’t blame them, Western Australia is literally one massive long beach and its stunning. Buuuutt I like to show them how wonderful the food is here… And coffee, especially the coffee!
Laura says
I’d be happy to see the beach… but take me to the wine! (And the food, obviously.)
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
Sounds like so much fun!! Sometimes a weekend spent with a close friend is just what your soul needs. I had a ladies’ night this weekend with my cousins and aunt & it was such a good time!
Laura says
So true! I wish we could go a girls night! Still haven’t seen RBG… doh.
