Last night was a late one.
Therefore today’s blog is a late one. 🙂
I went to see the Indigo Girls at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
The event is on the lawn and you can pre-order food from Metro Fresh to picnic with.
Peach caprese, roasted turkey sandwich with apples and walnut pesto, black pearl rice with mushrooms, and grilled asparagus with lemon aioli.
All very good – my favorite with the sandwich, which also included white Vermont cheddar and apples.
And, of course, a bottle of wine.
It wasn’t the best, but not the worst.
The Indigo Girls were my favorite band in college and they didn’t disappoint last night!
They opened the show with Yield and played a good mix of old and new all night.
Favorite new lyrics:
“My, my how time flies. The first time I met you had to shade my eyes.”
Despite a mid-concert torrential downpour, people stayed for the whole show, singing and dancing their hearts out.*
*Except the woman next to us, who was passed out cold. Too much crappy Chardonnay will do it every time, lady.
After the rain let up, Emily played Watershed. Appropriately timed, FTW.
“Every 5 years or so I look back on my life and I have a good laugh.”
I really like her restaurant, Watershed. (Click through to the site where you can check out the restaurant while listening to the song!)
If you’re ever in Atlanta check out their brunch, or for dinner don’t miss the white bean dip. Sounds plain, but YUM.
Encore! Encore!
Amy and Emily came out for their encore and played Chickenman. It’s my favorite song. Love the energy of it and Emily’s bangin’ guitar solo mid-song.
“I am an only child born of the wild, riddled to spend my time defending my land.”
You can’t have an Indigo Girls concert without Closer to Fine, which the crown enthusiastically sang along to. An oldie but a goodie.
“The best thing you’ve ever done for me is to help me take my life less seriously, it’s only life after all”
***
I need to get out to more concerts – good times.
What was your favorite back in high school or college?
What’s the best show you’ve seen lately?

I saw the Indigo Girls in my college gym. It was a good show. My favorite band in high school or college was Dave Matthews though. I think it still is.
I’m actually going to see Motley Crue and Poison on Sunday. Haha!

That is one to be a good show!!

They’re soooo good. I bet it was fun (minus the rain). My high school fav was either DMB or Incubus – not a bad live shows. Now, I might pick Foo Fighters. I saw them once with the Red Hot Chili Peppers – great concert!

Cool, I didn’t know they did concerts at the botanical gardens! I was a hardcore Tool fan in high school, now I’m just a fan. 🙂

They do a whole series. There are still tix to Steve Earle… 🙂

If I had to choose one my pick would be Oasis narrowly beating out The Verve.

As soon as I saw the title of your post I started singing 🙂 Love that song. Love Indigo Girls.
I am embarrassed to say that I loved NKOTB in high school. I am even more embarrassed to say that I rocked out to a Justin Timberlake concert a couple of years ago. But it was awesome since my friend and I were up in the nosebleed section and one of the concert people gave us wristbands to go down and party on the floor 🙂 best concert ever!
Laura says
NKOTB – LOL! I used to LOVE them!
Hayley @ Oat Couture says
I’m gonna grooveshark Indigo Girls right now… Food looks amazing!! I definitely need more concerts in my life too! I miss the days of amazing gigs in dark bars where the drinks are cheap and your feet stick to the floor! Good times! Great times actually! 🙂
Laura says
Ah, the good old days. 🙂

Oh that looks like such a fun time…and I want that sandwich!
Mary @ Bites and Bliss says
The best concery I’ve been to lately was the Crafish Boil back in May. My best friend and I go every year and this year we got to see Cee Lo. That was pretty cool. 😛

I haven’t seen a show in awhile. I think the last was Kings of Leon with my ex who was obsessed with them. My favorite show ever? Dropkick Murphys in Boston on St. Patrick’s Day 2007. I crowd surfed 🙂
Laura says
I’m more than a bit jealous of you right now. Too cool!

Peach caprese? That’s ingenious!

You always have the coolest fun. Life as a mother has certainly slowed down things like this. That is really cool that you can order such yummy sounding things too!
Jenny (VintageSugarcube) says
Good music and good food at a rad outdoor venue. Does life get any better? I’d so be there if I lived in the ATL. Happy Summer girlie. 🙂

What a fun night! I love the Botanical Gardens. I loved rap and R&B in HS so my favorite concert featured Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and a few others…good times!

Laura says
Really?! You need to go to one!!
Jess@Healthy Exposures says
I used to looooove going to shows! It’s been a while since I’ve gone to one, though. I’m not sure I’m still a mosher or a “drive two hours back home at 10:30”-er! haha. They’re always fun though, and I’m glad you had a good time 🙂 And hey, at least when it rained it really did pour. For some reason, it seems a lot more fun to be torrentially rained on than it does to be lightly sprinkled on… 😉
(p.s. love that last lyrics!)
Allison @ PickyEatingRD says
Don’t you just love concerts?! There is something about live music that just gets me. I have a hard time passing up a good concert! Glad you had a fun time!!
