Barcelona is an amazing food city. Â
Even better than I’d imagined! Â
I’m writing this to the sound of Vegas snoring (very loudly) next to me while I impatiently wait for dinner time.  As you read this, Vegas and I are traveling back to the States after an amazing week in Barcelona. I’m incredibly sad to have to go home, but we’re already plotting out return!
I will take the time to write a more thoughtful post about the incredible food and people we were treated to in the past week, but I wanted to get a quickie up for WIAW. So today I’m sharing a quickie WIAW from Barcelona.
Be sure to link up to Jenn’s WIAW baby at the bottom!
Breakfast:
I brought ACV and BCAAs from home so we could have our morning cocktail(I know… but it really starts the day out right). Most days Vegas slept in while I went to the gym. Then I came back with cafe con leche for both of us. I don’t love coffee, but I DO love it in Europe. It tastes so much better here!
We were pleased to discover that Barcelona, unlike most other European cities, is really into breakfast. Even better for us, many places serve it until noon or later!

Lunch:
Since we often slept in, breakfasts were basically lunch. That worked well, as dinner is served late here. Lunch was more like pre-dinner snack.
Dinner:
We didn’t really need an appetizer, but we couldn’t pass up these ham croquettes at Gaudim.
The goal of our dinner at Gaudim was paella. I ordered the seafood and Vegas had chicken and vegetables. Both were fabulous, but I really loved the fresh seafood in mine. Their prawns are almost sweet!
We also had wine… but if you know me that goes without saying. 😉
While we were stuffed… there’s a special place in your stomach that’s reserved for dessert. When our server brought out the dessert menu, we didn’t even have to talk about which dish we’d order.
This was a chocolate ganache dressed with flaky sea salt, local olive oil, and a crisp piece of toast. Sweet, salty, silky, and crunchy. I’m a little shocked one of us didn’t lick the plate!

I’m so exited to share the rest of our adventures! As soon as I recover from the jet lag…
Do you eat late on vacation?
Are you a sweet and salty person?
Your trip looks absolutely amazing! I love following along when you travel.
Thank you! It was such an amazing trip.
OMG THAT CHOCOLATE GANACHE! I would be all over that. lol.
Oh, we were. There’s no better combo than chocolate and salt!
Yum. So my mother has this plan that she and her boyfriend are going to live in Barcelona for a year. I will, obviously, come to eat there then! I actually went when I was about 22, but was a non-adventurous eater then.
I’m going to visit your mom too!
Oh yum all your eats look amazing! I love traveling for food and definitely enjoy the sleep ins and eating late on vacation. Have a safe trip back to the states!
It’s the only way to travel! 🙂
OMG all of that looks iNCREDIBLE, especially that breakfast yumm! I had no idea Spain was so into breakfast; that’s so nice, ’cause it’s obviously the best meal of the day, and no one in Europe gets it!
Great, now I wish I were in Barcelona 😉
I had no idea either! Not only do they do it, but they do it really well! Everywhere else in Europe, we usually just skip to lunch.
Been loving all of your photos! Looks like you had an amazing trip
Thanks Deborah!
Wow—looks like an amazing day of eats! That meat and cheese and olive spread looks right up my alley!
It’s our idea dinner!
I can still taste the paella from when I was in Barcelona years ago!
We actually came back and ordered a paella dish!
What a wonderful trip!!!!!! Seeing all those FB photos!
Thank Jody! We wanted to stay… for multiple reasons. 😉
As soon as I’m not pregnant….
Yes. You’ll need to be able to drink some cava.
I lived in Spain for 6 months and when I visited Barcelona I was a poor college student. I’ve been dreaming of going back ever since! So jealous!
I’m so jealous! One of my biggest regrets is not doing a semester abroad.
I would have licked the plate… Just sayin…. Ha!
I’m an early riser and find it a hard routine to break even when I am on holiday. But when we have travelled to certain places in Europe we have made sure to have an afternoon siesta so that we can eat, drink and be merry well into the night!
I’m so glad you both had such a wonderful time 🙂
Shameless! HA! I need to recreate it at home so I can lick the bowl, the spoon, the plate…
I need BARCELONA in my life and I will be going there cause I know Landon has mentioned wanting to go to Spain. I just don’t really want to go in the winter cause um yeah, COLD!!!!!! And that is typically when we travel. But we shall see what the future holds. I need to know how much spanish octopus you wolfed down!
It gets chilly, but it’s totally worth it! Plus, you’ll warn up eating all the yummy octopussy!
Ooh can’t wait to see the breakdown of your Barcelona eats in a future post! Your teasers look good Laura! My favorite eats in Europe so far were in Amsterdam, or maybe it helped that our cousin lives there and told us about the best spots! I’ve given myself a schedule to finish/publish Europe (4 main cities) by the end of the year. these are almost half a year behind as it is. I hope I meet my own goal! 🙂
I wish I’d had a guide in Amsterdam! I definitely need a re-do of that city. Maybe with a few less brownies… 😉
P.S. Your France post made my hungry!
don’t worry, we’ve been stalking you. I know you have lots to share. I can’t wait! gah… i wanna move away from US
um, not sure why that link is to another post LOL!
1. Let’s run away and start a food tour.
2. That was totally bizarre!
Ooooh Barcelona! Such amazing Tapas. And the wine…..hmmm. So happy you enjoyed one of my favourite European cities!!
When we move, you’ll have to come visit. 😉
I’m a little shocked you didn’t lick the plate either.
I love the picture of you with the wine glass in cooking class.
You would have LOVED that class.
That dessert sounds awesome! And I think it’ll be interesting to eat dinner so late in Spain (I leave Friday – so excited!) because we usually eat by 7. I noticed that most restaurants I’ve checked out don’t even open until then or later! But, that probably means that I’ll get pre-dinner naps in too, as well as pre-brunch gym time! 🙂
I really didn’t mind it – we tended to snack a lot during the day, plus we didn’t eat breakfast until 11. I can’t wait to follow along on your adventures!
Looks awesome, but why do you say most European cities are not into breakfast? Both in the UK, Scandinavia, France, the Netherlands and all over Eastern E both breakfast and brunch is a big deal! Brunch is originally British. Love your blog!
Really? That hasn’t been my experience at all! France is better about it, but I didn’t find that there was a brunch trend even close to Barcelona’s!
That looks amazing! Riley and I decided a few months ago that Spain was going to be our next anniversary trip, so I will be stalking all of your Spain-related posts. Now if only plane tickets will drop below $900 so I can book it….
You should go!!! There are some great flight deals right now. I just saw one for $345 to Barcelona! Check Google flights from Jan-March 2018. Also, check out this website: https://scottscheapflights.com/. I get the premium newsletter (there’s a free one too) and it pays off!
