Freaky Friday

September 7, 2012 By Laura

Quick: Name your first pet and the street you grew up on.

That’s your stripper name.

My name is is Twinkle Dickerson… and these are my shoes:

For real – these are my shoes for the figure competition.  They arrived yesterday and my doorman wouldn’t let me leave until he saw them.  Apparently the thought of me walking in heels like this is entertaining to everyone except me. 🙂

 ______________________________________________________________________________________

In other Freakish-ly Friday news… (this is going to be most random post ever, btw.)

1. Protein Cereal

Who would have thought this existed?  When I posted about my wish, you guys suggested I check out Kay’s Naturals.  THANK YOU!!!

I’m digging the sample pack I ordered.  The puffs were just “meh” but I am really liking the cereals and well as the pretzels so far.

Use discount code kays123 for 20% off your order!

2. My Veins

…look in freakishly pumped right after I lift.  Does this happen to other people?!

Side freakish note: she the scar above my tattoo?  The oven attacked me.

3. Lauren’s Lemon-Blueberry Pancakes

These are freakishly good.  And the recipe can be used to make a protein microwave muffin that is also delish.

4. Current Veggie Roast Obsession

Cinnamon-roasted white veggies and protein dip.  I originally did it with just parsnips here, but cauliflower is mighty tasty too, especially when dusted with cinnamon AND cocoa.  Sounds freaky, but I swear by it.

5. Hump Day Blog Love

I freaked out when Calee told me she gave me some Hump Day love – in a good way.

I was so honored to be featured by my pixie Blend.  If you don’t read her blog, you should.  And you should check out her freakishly amazing zippy pouch creations.

***

I fully realize I’ve reverted back to middle school with the use of “freaking out.”  Some days you just have to embrace your inner 13 year old.

What is your stripper name?

In the spirit of random: my mom wants to start doing some HIIT. Can anyone suggest some good beginner workouts?

So excited for you! I totally get the veins when I lift – and, admittedly, I have a “favorite vein” that pops out when I lift that runs across my shoulder – I’ll have to photo and post after my next workout.

My stripper name would be Nana North Hill. I don’t think that one is too sexy, but it’ll have to do!

    🙂 Keep pumping!

    CB

    • Laura says

      September 7, 2012 at 8:17 AM

Nana North Hill isn’t bad! 🙂

  2. Allie says

    September 7, 2012 at 8:03 AM

If your mom doesn’t mind watching ladies with large, fake breasts, the early videos on bodyrock.tv don’t involve all the fancy equipment and are fairly darn simple at-home and quick HIIT options, plus they are different on an almost daily basis, so it never feels like you’re in a doing-the-same-thing rut. I got my mom to do them for awhile, although I had to call and talk her into it each time 😀

Vena Brick School. That doesn’t sound so sexy. Let’s change that to my second pet and road… Zigmoot Sawmill. Nope, that one just sounds terrifying. I would NOT be giving Ms. Sawmill any dolla dolla bills…

And PROTEIN PRETZELS? Ohh, I’m going to click the site and cross my fingers that they’re vegan…

    • Allie says

      September 7, 2012 at 8:06 AM

SOY PROTEIN, OHHHHH SNAP. Yup, if we’re going grade school phrases, let’s go grade school phrases 😉

      • Laura says

        September 7, 2012 at 8:16 AM

My mom doesn’t need more boob-encouragement. LOL! 😉

        Oh snap is right!

    • Laura says

      September 7, 2012 at 11:58 AM

That’s very virginal. (Is that a word?)

  4. Khushboo says

    September 7, 2012 at 8:31 AM

Haahah mine would be None Grosvenor…not too sexy at all! Ah your veins make me feel normal..I get them all the time in my legs after a lower body workout and let’s just say that Google only makes me unnecessarily paranoid! To start off, maybe your mom can try a walk/run program….the short bursts of running can help get raise her heart rate without her feeling too overwhelmed.

    • Laura says

      September 7, 2012 at 12:10 PM

You had a pet named None?! LOL! How did that come about?

  5. Carrie says

    September 7, 2012 at 8:31 AM

Mmm…pancakes. I get super veiny too after working out. It makes you look badass! My stripper name is Pussywillow Gardiner. HOT!

    • Laura says

  10. Stacy @ Stacy Eats says

    September 7, 2012 at 9:14 AM

Hahaha Twinkle Dickerson, love it! I think that totally goes with those shoes and even sorta fits the guy who was hitting on you and calling you Tinkerbell!
My name would be Zelda Indigo. Ow ow!

      Zelda – LOVE it!

  11. Laura says

  12. Alayna @ Thyme Bombe says

    • Laura says

      September 7, 2012 at 12:55 PM

I disagree… I think that work perfectly. You’re like a high-end Vegas hooker with all those names!

  13. Aparna B. (Mimi Woodmar) says

    September 7, 2012 at 10:02 AM

Mimi Woodmar doesn’t sound have as good as Twinkle Dickerson! Mine sounds pretty trashy in comparison. LOL. Can I also say I kind of giggled when I saw your pic on Instagram holding up that shoe with the look on your face. Classic. And P.S. I embrace my inner tween every Friday. haha.

    • Aparna B. (Mimi Woodmar) says

    • Laura says

      September 7, 2012 at 12:58 PM

I have never like ketchup… isn’t that weird?

  15. Ashley @ Freckles & Spice says

    September 7, 2012 at 10:25 AM

I have a few bags of those kay’s cereals too! I grab them from this health food store in Syracuse when I go home to visit. I like the honey almond better than the french vanilla.

I like to stick to the basics for great beginner hiit. Big muscle group exercises and things like elliptical and treadmill. I think the less thought and least complicated easy to stick with.

There are definitely better things out there but here are some of my own:

    Cardio only: http://frecklesandspice.com/2011/08/workout-wednesday-heart-pumping-sweaty-elliptical-routine/

Time Crunch Butt Kicker Circuit: http://frecklesandspice.com/2011/04/neurosciene-retreat-and-weekend-highlights/

Warm Up – 15 min on the Elliptical

Each of the following exercises 1 right

    after the other; repeated 2x-3x

    Squat Press – w/ 10 lbs dumbbells 12 reps
Treadmill Interval 1 min-very brisk run; 1 min jog
    Plank Row – w/ 12.5 lb dumbbells 16 reps (8 ea side)
    Jump Rope – 1 min
Diagonal Bicep curl – 10 lbs 24 reps alternating (12 ea side)
Treadmill Interval 1 min-very brisk run; 1 min jog
Tricep Dips – on bench 12 reps
    Jump Rope – 1 min
2 Ab exercises of choice – stability ball crunches and 1 min plank

    Happy Friday Twinkle!

I love the shoes. maybe a video of the walking is in order?

cinnamon on cauliflower?? I WILL be trying this. and I am all about protein cereal – it is usually so crunchy, which is why I love it. if you have a surplus to use: http://spabettie.com/2012/04/10/apple-crunch-protein-bites/ YUM. 🙂

    September 7, 2012 at 12:12 PM

i think blueberry & lemon are such an odd but workable combo! i bet they would be super tasty in turkey burgers – hmm now you’ve got me thinking haha. i also am REALLY obsessed with extra crispy roasted cauliflower! which i haven’t had in FOR-EV-ER. i think i need to make that happen tonight – crisping works best on the barbie!

    • Laura says

      September 7, 2012 at 1:46 PM

Good call on the turkey burgers… I want to do it in a tuna burger!

  22. Carol @ Lucky Zucca says

This post had me cracking up! Just what I needed today! That is a pretty sweet stripper name you have. Mine sounds like a dood. King Parkstone?

    • Laura says

      September 7, 2012 at 1:47 PM

LOL! You have a pimp name.

  23. Heather @ Kiss My Broccoli says

    September 7, 2012 at 1:13 PM

Wow, I had no idea Lauren’s pancake recipe would make that much! Those things are huge! (totally appropriate for this post…TWSS!) I’ve made the muffin version but I’ve yet to try them as pancakes…now they’re on the list! So glad you like the Kay’s products…I knew you would! I’m gonna have to check out the pretzels for sure!

I did notice the veins in my wrist and inner elbow area were popping during today’s workout, but NOTHING like yours! Dude, that is NICE!

Nothing beats the sweetness of a perfectly roasted parsnip! And I LOVE them with cinnamon, but I’ll have to it with protein dip! Mmm!

Omg, those shoes are awesome…and also really scary! And your stripper name totally works! Haha! I can’t remember the name of my FIRST pet, so I’ll just go with one I can remember….so that would make me Sparky Mountainwood! What’s with us and our phallic street names?! Bahahaha!

    • Laura says

      September 7, 2012 at 1:49 PM

SPARKY??? That is a winner. You should have lots of extra income with a name like that. 😉

  24. Rachel @ My Naturally Frugal Family says

    September 7, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Where does one start with this post 🙂

The picture of you and the shoes: Funny
The viens: a little scary, but hey it shows you have been working hard for the money (or something like that)
The stripper names have been hilarious to read, my not so exciting Tux Oakwood…but hey they can’t all be winners.

Now you just need to break in the stripper shoes so you don’t kill yourself in your first competition.

BTW why plastic for the shoe?

    • Laura says

      September 7, 2012 at 1:50 PM

No idea… maybe so as not to distract from the muscles and the sparkly suit?

  25. Allie says

    September 7, 2012 at 3:36 PM

I’ve always heard the stripper name thing as your middle name and your street name LOL. I would be Kristine Chapparal. Sexaaay.

    I like the shoes 😉

  26. Lisa says

    September 7, 2012 at 3:53 PM

Ha ha. The veins definitely happen when you have super low body fat. Just one of the fun things about building muscle and burning fat.
I love the picture with your shoes, too cute!
My stripper name would be Scruffy Walema. Ummm that’s a creepy stripper name.

    • Kammie says

      September 7, 2012 at 8:25 PM

      That’s a total pimp name. 🙂

  28. Kammie says

    September 7, 2012 at 4:59 PM

My stripper name would be polish so none of you guys would understand it haha but it’s not that funny. Or maybe? To translate, it would be something like “Purrer (as in someone who purrs, aka my first cat lol) independence.”

    Kinda weid. Haha.
Your arms are amazing. I can’t wait to see your pics fom the competition when it’s time!

    • Laura says

      September 10, 2012 at 8:13 AM

I don’t have any oven scars, but I do have one from the iron. it’s right on my bicep- and I got it the day after my wedding when I was ironing a shirt to take on our mini honeymoon right after. I wish it would go away!

Like you said, sometimes its just necessary. Example-I don’t know whether to freak out or admire myself when my veins show while I’m lifting….
