Life has been a little scattered lately.
∧ That’s a huge understatement.
One day I will have my life together. I may even post a recipe again. Seeing as how last night was the first time I’ve used the stove in my new place, today is not that day. Today I will list all of the random things – some more productive than others – I’ve been up to for Meghan’s Week In Review.
I have furniture and nearly everything is put away. That’s a huge accomplishment. Most of the bruises are even gone!
I went to work all week (obviously) and went to the gym almost every day after work. It’s a new habit for me… I’m more of a lunchtime workout person.
Last week I also managed to get two blog posts up! I did my Wednesday #WIAW post and then one on getting fit for life. I swear, working out is literally the only thing that keeps me sane. It’s also something I am refocusing on post-move. This weekend I took some time to set up my kitchen. After St. Patrick’s, that is. ♣
For St. Patrick’s Day, I celebrated with some of my old MBA classmates. We did a very traditional Irish thing… we went for Korean barbeque at Han Il Kwan.
We left with the meat sweats. Pretty sure we ate like a pound of beef each. #worthit
Naturally, one must drink scotch to get rid of the meat sweats. And Kentucky bourbon. My favorite was the 21 year Balvenie. Obviously, this was the most expensive bottle.
Yesterday morning I needed to have an athletic type of sweat. So I ran 3.5 miles through the Tech campus and back to the park.
I stopped for a second on some hammocks, conveniently located in the middle of the Tech campus. Truth be told, I could have fallen asleep right there. But I got up and kept going.
Then I got my shit together. I went to Whole Foods and stocked the kitchen. It was glorious. Except for the parking situation. Why is it that no Whole Foods anywhere in America has enough parking?!
Vegas is coming this week so I wanted to make sure I had her staple foods. This includes gummy bears, ketchup, ranch, chips, and sliced American cheese. And beer, which isn’t pictured. 😉
For me, I got popcorn, lots of fresh veggies, tofu, and sea bass. Those grain-free Siete chips are awesome, in case you were wondering. Stick with the sea salt flavor though.
Which leads me to dinner. The first time I used the oven in this new place! I roasted brussels and broccoli slaw with garlic-infused coconut oil, balsamic, and nutritional yeast. Then I cooked the sea bass with lemon juice, pepper, and basil. It was exactly what I needed. Sea bass is one of my favorite foods, and my go-to when I want to treat myself.
I took the productivity one step further and swept the house. That’s how much I love Vegas. I cleaned for her.
However, house cleaning isn’t really my thing. I think this is something worth spending a little money on.
Now I’m typing this, eating popcorn, and watching 20th Century Women. I’m probably going to fall asleep by 9 and I’m not one bit ashamed! Zzzzz…

Two more days until Vegas comes to visit! It’s going to be the longest 2 days ever.
Have you ever had Korean barbeque?
Do you have your house cleaned?

Damn woman! You are just getting s**t done!! Good for you. I swear, working out on a regular basis will do that for you. Now, I’m not sure if there is anything in the world that would motivate me to cook but…I’ll keep searching 🙂 And those hammocks? That is just a cruel tease in the middle of a run!
Laura says
Those hammocks are about to be my home away from home!

Glad to see that you are settling in! Moving is so much harder than you ever expect it to be. Yay for Vegas coming in this week

Accomplishment feels so good. Way to go!

Ok. seriously- I had to come over and check out the Korean food. I am so jealous. I love the kimchi and all of the side dishes especially the spinach and bean sprouts. I really should have paid attention to my mom when I was little and learned to make Korean food.
I’m with you 100% on the Bourbon after spicy food. My cousins and I always have a nice drink after….ok… before, during and after.
Laura says
I wish I’d had someone to teach me to make Korean food! I feel like if I read about it I could do it… it’s just so delicious at this place! And bourbon is always mandatory. 😉

Woooo things are coming together! I love those first shops after a move. I mean, they hurt the wallet, but I find them so exciting with that feeling of starting fresh, starting new. And sweeping definitely deserves brownie points. It hopefully doesn’t cause bruises either. Well done!!
Laura says
Yes! Grocery shopping after a move or even a vacation is the best. Except for my wallet.
Kate says
I have friends that just moved and seemed annoyed we hadn’t popped in unannounced yet. But my moving experience has been like yours – chaos in the beginning. Everyone needs some time to get it together in a new place!
Laura says
That’s so true. I’m sure they’ll love to show off the new digs once they’re settled though!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
We are going to have the apartment deep cleaned soon. So that we don’t have to acknowledge our filth.
How long before the oven catches fire?
Laura says
HAHAHAHA! Don’t jinx it…

I’m impressed and for more than just the booze and meat sweats. Evening workouts and cooking in your own kitchen for the win.
Those bruises look like they hurt or did at the time. Ouch. I can’t wait for you and Vegas to be reunited. That’s probably the hardest part about this move.
I clean only when I have to or when I’m super stressed and then it’s panic cleaning. The rest of the time, I outsource that shit.
Laura says
The booze and meat sweats helped the bruises.
Your room is now ready though!
Patrick@looneyforfood.com says
Meat sweats, athletic sweats……hahahaha it’s all good! At least work and workouts are consistent. I’ve never herd of that bbq but it looks amazing! Enjoy Vegas coming home!
Laura says
You have to try Korean BBQ! It’s delicious and it’s so much fun to go to – the servers make it right at the table!
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
Ah Balvenie… That’s a really nice whisky. The area I was brought up in Scotland was part of the whisky trail – which basically means I was surrounded by dozens of distilleries. I really miss home sometimes, such a beautiful part of the world.
Enjoy your time with Vegas, I really really hope so much that her move to ATL comes sooner than later!
Laura says
I’m incredibly jealous of Scotland! I have big goals of doing the Kentucky bourbon trail. Or Scotland. I’m not picky.
GiGi Eats says
Scotch as a Meat Sweats cure huh?!?! I had no idea – THAT being said, THIS GIRL doesn’t get meat sweats. I thriveeeeeeeeee on the MEATS! 😉
Laura says
Do you do Korean BBQ? I think it’s better than shawarma. Bold statement, I know.
GiGi Eats says
I’ve never done the K.BBQ – cause I can’t have the sauces… And I don’t eat red meat at restaurants – do they have chicken?? And that IS A BOLD STATEMENT!!!! I DO NOT believe it! hahahaha!
Laura says
They have all the meats! Chicken, shrimp, steak, pork belly…
Farrah says
Yayyy for korean BBQ! I definitely have a tendency to stuff my face whenever I go to those!
House cleaning is something that tends to fall to the wayside for me when life is going outta control. ._. My apartment is actually in the best state it’s been in since I first moved in, but I can’t take credit for it because my parents came to visit and cleaned it while I was working. <3 <3 <3
Laura says
You can’t NOT stuff your face at Korean BBQ! It’s too good to waste. 🙂
