The productivity that results from lists is amazing.
Goals. To-dos. Groceries. Doesn’t matter.
Despite anything I logically know, anything I’ve read, anything people have told me… I’m constantly amazed that lists work. Once I get my sh*t together and write a list – in order of priority – it magically* gets done.
I even make Vegas a food list – I tape a list of food/snack ideas to the fridge so she’ll know what we have and make healthier choices. She actually requested this!!!
*Okay, maybe not magically. I do have to actually do the sh*t. But it magical when I actually focus on a task and do it.
So far, 2018 has been a series of “OMG MY HAIR IS ON FIRE” and “I think this is the anxiety attack that will actually stop my heart.” The good news is that I *think* things are coming together. (Please, dear god, everyone knock on wood.)
Vegas and I might have an announcement soon! For now, here’s what we’ve been eating. Sort of. Be sure to link up to Jenn’s WIAW baby at the bottom!
Breakfast:
Vegas brought me half a cup of coffee to bed, of which I drank half before coming downstairs to make our morning cocktails and start breakfast.
We’ve been on a Cottage Cheese Baked Egg kick. The reason is two-fold: we love them and we have a LOT of cottage cheese right now (note to self: revisit grocery lists).
Lunch:
I made an old favorite: Balsamic Marinated Chicken. It’s so great to have on hand for lunches during busy weeks.
Dinner:
We had a semi-homemade dinner from Hello Fresh. It was an Orange Chicken Stirfry. I took the base they sent me, made it bigger with chicken and rice we had here, and added broccolini, garlic, onions, yellow and orange bell peppers, and sesame seeds.
Literally cannot follow a recipe… which is funny, as its kind of like a list. It’s more a starting point for me to jump of off. It turned out really well though! Also, I don’t like rice (unless it’s in sushi), so I ate mine over spinach.
There was an unpictured square… okay, four squares… of chocolate after dinner.

I’m a proud member of the Type A club.
Are you a list-maker?
Does your spouse or SO need help navigating the fridge?
Patrick@looneyforfood.com says
I HAVE to make lists! If its not on a list I won’t remember to do it. I to can never follow a recipe, I always change things. Usually to make it bigger for my large appetite.
Laura says
We might have been separated at birth… by a few years… 😉
Allie says
Lists are definitely my thing but they are all on my phone. If anything ever happened to them I would curl up in a corner and just order drinks…:-)
Laura says
Mine are mostly on my phone. I just have the food list on the fridge for Vegas. She’s a paper person.
The drinks happen regardless. 😉
Patricia @Sweet and Strong says
You MUST try bullet journaling if you love lists. It’s a list of all the things you love making lists of organized in one place. I just started this January and have been loving it!
Laura says
I’ve never heard of that! It sounds perfect for me. Off to google…
Deborah Brooks says
I am very much a list person too! I am excited to try your cottage cheese eggs recipe looks delish
Laura says
I hope you like it! It’s been in constant rotation here.
Joann @ Woman in Real Life says
I love lists, but sometimes I make so many and one or two go missing. I’m trying to at least keep the shopping list on my phone.
Laura says
I am the same way – I think just writing it down (or typing it) helps you remember!
Jolene says
I love lists! And also never follow a recipe to a T either, or hardly. I mash up ideas from a few, usually and make them my own. You don’t like rice? I do, though I don’t actually eat it that often, also mostly with sushi. mmm sushi…
Laura says
I’m the worst Southerner – I’d never even eat the most buttery of rice my mom made. I do love some sushi though!
Jess @ Jessica Cording Nutrition says
I’m obsessed with lists. So glad I’m not the only one!
Kate says
I’m all about lists. But I don’t make them for my husband. Mostly he just whines “but what kind of sweets do we have? “
Laura says
Vegas has her own pantry shelf for junk food. It consists of minute rice, ramen, Oreos, Honey Nut Cheerios, and peanut M&Ms.
Emily Swanson says
Two of my sisters make BEAUTIFUL lists. I think God gave different people a specific gift for that, because I don’t have that one, but I love to look at their lists.
Laura says
I’m always amazed at how different my sisters and I are!
Farrah says
I am a total list junkie as well (even more so since I started bullet journaling, if that’s even possible). 😀 It helps me to keep track of everything so I feel like I have parts of my life together! 😛
Laura says
You’re the second person to mention bullet journaling!!! I’m totally looking into this.
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
I love lists and I can never understand why others don’t use them?! Best life tool ever!
David, even though we do the weekly shop together, still never remembers what is in the fridge or cupboard… It literally needs to be right in front of him!
Laura says
Sounds just like Vegas and me! I tried giving her a “tour” of the fridge so that she knows, but the list works much better.
Nicole @ Laughing My Abs Off says
I am DEFINITELY a list person. To-do’s, lists of favorite things, recipes….sometimes I procrastinate by making lists or make lists while zoning out in class LOL.
Laura says
I’ve been known to do the same… at least you’re productively procrastinating!
Cora says
Haha oh god – I swear Dan does NOT understand how I work with fridges. a) he never puts things back in the same place (grrr pet peeve/I swear I’m not anal) and.. he totally forgets what is in there as soon as it goes in. I’ll make something and then have a bunch of leftovers, but he doesn’t ever think about them. I swear the only thing he knows is in the fridge is cheese.
But lists. Yes. I love them. Put them everywhere. Even if/when I end up getting none of it done, they make me feel like I have some sort of control of my life. Somewhat.
Laura says
YES!!! Vegas watched me move the srirach (that she had out away) and said “are you REALLY doing that.” Yes, yes I am. I do the same thing with the dishwasher.
Mary says
I’m a list junky too!So happy to learn I’m not alone. My Dad made lists, my Sister makes lists, lists seem to run in the family. Those cottage cheese baked eggs look divine
Laura says
A whole Type A family! I love it. 🙂
Lynn @ Oh-So Yummy says
I like lists! And spreadsheets too! During San Diego Burger Week I compiled a list of every special to plan out eats plus my latest Birthday Freebies post (https://www.oh-soyummy.com/blog/master-list-birthday-freebies-and-deals-including-san-diego-restaurants). I need to start following through on my home cleaning list though =P
Laura says
I am a spreadsheet junkie! Every vacation, every house search, every party… all on a spreadsheet!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
Fellow list junkie right here.
Maybe we need to get you a planner complete with stickers and washi tape. Come fall down that rabbit hole with me.
Laura says
Let’s not push it… 😉
Debra Eliotseats says
I think I should make a list to make lists.
Laura says
HA! But really though… 😉
