Sometimes you have to get away.
Away can be 20 miles down the road.
I don’t have a lot of words today. Â One of my best friends and I crashed my mom’s house for the weekend. Â It was a glorious break, and I am so grateful to my mom for providing us this little oasis of happiness. Â I’m still easing back into the “real” world.
The steps to this Operation: Vacation weekend are best recapped in pictures.

Step 1: workout in a deserted gym

Step 2: Find a pool and soak up the sun

Step 4: Make a big meal of mussles, lamb, swordfish, and veggies on the grill and share with friends.

Step 5: Don’t forget dessert

Step 6: Wake up on day 2, don’t shower, and lounge in the pool all day

Step 7: Enjoy freshly picked strawberries. Puree them into margaritas. Forget to take pics.

Step 8: Have massive dinner. Get seconds. Then thirds.
***
Step 9: Drive home. Â Whimper at the thought of work. Â “Write” short blog post while reliving the fun memories and thinking happy thoughts about your mom, sister, and friends.
What was the best part of your weekend?
How tempted were you to call in sick today?
Looks like such a fun weekend!
I just ate the last of my berries today, so seeing yours made me sad for myself;)
Awwww! I’d bring you some for a smoothie if I could!
Oh what a perfect weekend!! I am so jealous on your sun and pool, I think winter is considering to come back here. I absolutely love to hang out with friends all weekend and rocking some good bbq’s and other fun. I also love deserted gyms! 🙂
We did not have a holiday yesterday, so I am in workmode already the second day, but my weekend starts on Thursday evening, which is pretty nice too.
Aww, this made me smile!! And I love how it’s totally an “Allie” type post! Short…sweet…and REAL! Sometimes we just need a break! Glad you got to get away…I need to do that!
Gah! Don’t even put the thought of calling in sick in my head! Way too tempting.
Isn’t there something fabulous about getting away to your Mom’s house and being spoiled, relaxing and having time away?? I totally get it. Our weekend was full of activity–helping friends move, hosting a party on Sunday and taking care of some much needed spring cleaning.
Now it’s back to work. Have a great day!
Ha, every day feels like a vacation so I never not look forward to work. I would kill to be near a pool right now (and for it to actually be warm enough for me to get in it!).
I don’t want to hear it, lucky girl! 😉
I agree. Sometimes you really do just have to get away. It was nice getting out to St Louis this weekend, though it would have been nicer if it were warm enough to wear the bikini I brought. No poolside fun for me!
Sounds like a great weekend. The weather was perfect. Every weekend should be a 3-day weekend. I think we’d be a lot happier as a country if it was!
I’d vote for you on that platform!
Im so so so tempted to call my CHILD IN SICK today and keep her home to play with me 🙂
i’m on summer break so uhhh sorry everyday is a vacation for me right now 😛
I’m sticking my tongue out at you right now. 😛
Sounds like the perfect weekend! Especially when margaritas are involved! 🙂
Sounds perfect. I always loved hitting the gym on a holiday weekend b/c no one would ever be there.
It’s still desserted this week! It’s my dream.
Sounds like a great weekend! Mine wasn’t nearly as fun, just hung out at home. I’m ready to go back to work, but I am thinking to schedule myself a long weekend in June. Maybe two!
Ahhhhhhhhhh! looks like a refreshing time!
Every day should be like that!!! So glad you had this R&R time. You need & deserve it!!!
We had beautiful weather , saw family & cookies!!! 🙂
It wasn’t a long weekend for us up here in Canadaland, but I ended up taking an extended break from blogging as well. Sometimes it’s just nice to get away and keep things short and sweet.
The pool and the watermelon salad look incredible!!!
So glad you had a nice little “retreat” weekend!!!
It looks like you had a great weekend! All of the food looks delicious!
Awesome! Love weekends like those- so required ;)! Glad you had a good one!
Defintiely required. 🙂
Ahhhh that sounds AMAZING! I love the pool & hanging out next to it. so so so much. That was me for most of the weekend 🙂
something about mom’s that is just fantastic, ehh?!
I love all photo posts!! I should do them more often because sometimes I think I talk too much! Glad you enjoyed your weekend, Laura!
Same here! I have diarrhea of the mouth sometimes. 🙂
Looks like an awesome weekend! Delicious looking watermelon salad 🙂
You’re so lucky to have had such wonderful weather! I was looking at your Instagram pics and getting uber jealous as it was raining and only in the 50s here! Whomp whomp… what kind of kick off to Summer is that!
It took every fiber of motivation in my body to get to work this morning. And I’m still thinking about calling in tomorrow. LOL! I’m so glad you had such an amazing weekend! you deserve it!
We pulled out some food on the grill too last night even though it was just the three of us. Nothing says summer more
All I was thinking this entire weekend was WHY I WASN’T INVITED TO YOUR MAMA’S HOUSE FOR SOME DELICIOUS FOOD… Still wondering. LOL!
July 4th. Be there.
Long weekends are the best! It’s so hard to get back in the groove and normal routine. That pool and grilled food- mmm, perfection.
Sounds like a perfect weekend! Lots of good food, friends and family 🙂
I got a long weekend, but not because it was a holiday around here – I just took a few days off work for a conference. I think being able to spend time with my cousin I only see once-twice a year was probably the best part!
And I’m happy you had a fabulous weekend Laura!
That’s awesome! I’m glad you guys had fun!!!
Jealous of your pool time, it is much to cool here!
i get to fly back to kansas city in a month to see my parents and yes it will feel totally like a vacation!! even if I have to make all my own food because they eat unhealthy something about it will make me feel taken care of!
Fun!!! That’s too bad they aren’t on the healthy train. I love that my mom and I can cook together… though the chips and crackers she keeps all over the house are my nemesis. 🙂
Sounds like a perfect weekend to me! That watermelon salad looks amazing! I am definitely going to try that!!
Let me know if you do! It’s so easy to throw together.
I wanted to call in sick all weekend, but my boss (Tony) wouldn’t allow that. We worked all weekend! I’m glad someone enjoyed all that sunshine and relaxation! 😉
Your boss is a slave driver! Tell him I said you deserve a raise. 😉
Relaxing by the pool and drinking margaritas sounds amazing! I was very tempted to call in sick to work today after such a fabulous weekend. The weather is getting way too pretty to stay indoors.
So fun! looks like a perfect weekend. It rained a ton here this weekend so we didn’t get out much. Oh well, the count down to summer starts now!
Summer has been so slow to arrive this year! Hope it comes your way soon. 🙂
That watermelon salad just screams Summer! Yum! 🙂
Today was my first day back at the office in over a week, and it was torture driving into the office. Am I too young to retire?
Your weekend looks like a perfect getaway. What bliss.
I’ve been plotting my retirement too. Alas, my plan to win the lottery hasn’t panned out yet.
Your moms home looks beautiful. I wanna come swimming!!
I’m actually avoiding going home this summer, because I know the longer I am there, the less likely it is I will want to leave when the time comes for me to actually move down to Alabama.
And we don’t even do such cool things. It’s just the fact that home, not surrounded by all of my ‘stuff’ (physical or otherwise) is really the only place where I feel like I can relax, you know?
Well, when you’re closer you must come to mamma’s oasis. We will heat the hot tub and have a fall pool party!
I love that you relaxed at your mom’s house. Moms are the best 🙂
I was SO SO SO tempted to call in sick each morning this week. I apparently needed yet another day of sleeping and eating and drinking to recover from the weekend 😉
That sounds perfect!! We had an amazing weekend too that included workouts, yoga, beer tours in Fort Collins, decadent breakfasts, long walks, lounging at the pool, stuffing our faces, movies, and a shrimp boil. 🙂
