Who’s already eaten their weight in holiday baked goods!
*avoids eye contact*
Vegas and I just had a conversation about clean eating… and how it’s important to enjoy the holidays without freaking out that you’ve just ruined all your hard work (imagine dramatic music).
Every year in January I like to do a cleanse… except I don’t like the word cleanse. What I do is a super clean jump start for my body. It’s 21 days of unprocessed, anti-inflammatory eating. The first 10 days are even vegan! It may sound hard, but after the first 5 days, your body adjusts and you start enjoying it. I love how creative it makes me in the kitchen. After I finish, my energy is insane, my metabolism is on fire (and it stays that way!), and I’ve usually lost 5-8 lbs.
This year, I decided to share the jump start with you all! If your body could use a reset in January and can commit for 21 days, click here to answer a VERY short questionnaire/interest form.
Enough of the healthy talk! It’s time for a holiday #WIAW. Be sure to link up to Jenn’s WIAW baby at the bottom!
Breakfast:
As always, we started with our morning cocktail. I then choked down like half a cup of coffee.
We haven’t had french toast in a while, so I decided to surprise Vegas with a more decadent breakfast than usual. I was going to make it the “standard” way, but then I saw the eggnog in the fridge. Eggnog French toast? Why not?
Eggnog French Toast
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 C eggnog
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 4 slices of bread
Scramble the egg, nog, cinnamon, and vanilla. Soak the bread. Fry it up in a pan, plate it, and enjoy!
Lunch:
I didn’t take a picture, but we’re eating my Spaghetti Squash Pie. These pics are prettier anyway. 😉
Dinner:
This has been dinner two nights in a row. It’s been so busy that I just haven’t been down for cooking. Truth be told, we like these charcuteries just as well. The wine helps.

I’m ready for Christmas to come and go. Bring it, 2018!
Are you ready for a reset in January?
Do you do charcuterie/cheeseboard dinners?
Heather McClees says
I do a “cleanse” every January too, except I don’t call it that either. I always feel the need for “more green” around this time of year and have decided to go ahead and start, because I’m SOOOO ready for 2018! 🙂 I love that you’re doing one too! I eat plant-based anyway, but we all need to give our systems a reboot every now and again. Can’t wait to hear all about your jump start!
Laura says
Of course, you do the same! 🙂 It’s so nice to let our bodies recover and reset after the holiday craziness.
Jess @ Jessica Cording Nutrition says
OMG, that charcuterie board…
I’m actually looking forward to January too. I love that fresh-start feeling and biz planning for 2018 has been really fun and exciting : )
Laura says
It’s one of our favorite dinners!
Happy New Year!
Patrick@looneyforfood.com says
I’m looking forward to January as well, mostly because I’ll be in Florida for a good portion of it and away from the CT cold! I always tighten up my eating in the new year, it feels good after the holidays! I love your cheese board dinner
Laura says
Stay there! I just saw where the wind chill in the NE is going to go as low as -100. Is that even possible???
Patricia @Sweet and Strong says
Charcuterie Boards make the BEST dinner! And Oh eggnog french toast, that sounds delicious!
Laura says
Thanks! Vegas seems to approve. LOL!
Carrie this fit chick says
I LOVEEEE charcuterie and cheese board dinners. My LIFE right there. That french toast sounds so good- and so festive!
lindsay Cotter says
totally agree bro! I hate the word cleanse. Reset is perfect. Mental and physical. And I’m ready for January too!
Laura says
I know you are brother!!! Here’s to a less shitty 2018!
Kate says
eggnog French toast sounds awesome
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
You and I dinner the same. It’s one of the reasons I like when the Hubby has to work late and I’m left to my own defenses.
Laura says
Thankfully, Vegas doesn’t mind my non-dinner dinners. How can you go wrong with anything that involves cheese and wine?
Deborah Brooks says
I am planning a little get back on track in January myself. Nothing major but I need to stop eating cookies 🙂
Laura says
Amen to that! LOL!
Cora says
I expect come January my body isn’t going to want quite so many cookies….
Or who am I kidding, maybe it will.
I haven’t had french toast in so long. I used to make it for my brothers’ on the weekends. I just rectify that – Christmas style.
Merry Christmas to you and Vegas!!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious says
I don’t like the words cleanse or detox, but often they are marketing necessary. I know my body is in need of a little TLC these days!
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
Ok David is going to freak when I tell him about egg nog French toast – you better believe that’s going to be made in our house over the next few weeks!
I always forget how ow good a dinner a cheeseboard can be. But never fear it’s always our dinner of choice on Boxing Day! (26th)
Laura says
Did you try it?! French toast anything is good, but add eggnog and YUM!
Susie @ Mile High Dreamers says
While I LOVE the holidays and all of the goodies that go with it, I’m SO ready for a re-set in January! I just love how AMAZING my body feels when I’m eating clean. And not having ALL of the treats in the staff room come the new year will make it a lot easier to stay on track!
Basically, I just want all the cheeses on a charcuterie board. And maybe some fruit. But mostly the cheese.
Let’s enjoy these last days of holiday noms!

It really does make you appreciate how good you feel when you get back to it after the holidays! Happy New Year!
GiGi Eats says
Spaghetti squash pie looks like my heaven – fucking love that shit! As for baked goods, honestly haven’t eaten much of anything holiday-is… And it legit doesn’t feel like the holidays AT ALL… We are headed to Denver tomorrow and it’s going to be weird because I don’t even know what will ensue. And then Africa – which obviously won’t feel like Christmas either – lol! Oh well, life is always moving so you just have to go with the flow, right?!
Laura says
I’m loving all the giraffe make out pics! Nasty woman. 😉
Agness of Run Agness Run says
Those coconut macarons seem finger-licking, Laura! Having a regular anti-inflammatory eating is so crucial and great for the whole body!
Laura says
Thanks! They’re a holida staple over here. 🙂
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
I love charcuterie plates for dinner! And while I definitely ate a lot yesterday on Christmas, overall I’ve been eating pretty well while traveling this & last week. I’ve snuck in a couple workouts and have just been mindful of eating everything in moderation… but a cleanse always makes me feel awesomely healthy & strong, so I hear ya!! Happy Holidays friend!! Let’s get together soon when I’m back in town.
Laura says
You’re always so good about that!
Let’s do get together soon. So much to discuss! *eye roll*
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
I could eat a meat & cheese board every night – but the problem is I am always tempted to go a bit too wild on the meat and cheese and end up with TONS!
Laura says
We’re the same! I’ve finally (almost) learned that lesson.
