My Random List of Accomplishments

February 22, 2016 By Laura

There is a lot of stuff in my head.

You don’t want to be in there.  Trust me.

In an effort to organize myself this week, I made an actual written To-Do List.  I’m normally not that organized, but there’s something especially motivating about getting to cross through things.

In that spirit, I decided to join in Meghan’s Week in Review.  Because I got shit done.  Meghan, what do you think about renaming it “Shit I Got Done”?

https://www.instagram.com/p/BB0riDVGjXD/

  • I worked and made an invoice.  Like my very own design vs. using whatever template I could find for free on Google.  Been meaning to do that FOREVER.  I also remember to send said invoice.  #winning
  • I hit 10K steps every day last week.  Having a step tracker keeps me crazy honest.  While I’m not terribly organized, I can be anal about some things.  That’s what she said.
  • Vegas and I celebrated National Drink Wine Day in style with a bottle of Amarone and a Reese’s heart leftover from Valentine’s Day.  The hearts are my favorite – they have more PB.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BB8wnyyGjVB/

  • We planned a road trip… during which I will see my first Nascar race (pray for me), hike in Antelope Canyon, and go to a Padres spring training game (that’s baseball pre-season, for those of you who are baseball fanatics… ahem, Lucie).
  • I tired oil pulling.  I’m on day 1.  You know how weird it feels to swish coconut oil around in your mouth for 20 mins?  Apparently it’s all kinds of healthy and can whiten your teeth.  We shall see…
  • Have you ever heard of a shower beer?  Well, we decided to class it up with shower bubbles.  Delicious brut rosé from Schramsberg.

Shower bubbles.

  • I did my first leg day since my PRP treatment.  It went ok… I’m not 100% yet but I think it’s working.  Worked well enough for me to make myself so sore I couldn’t lower myself to pee without grabbing the counter for 3 days.  Good times.
  • I read an entire book laying on the grass in Balboa Park.  It was glorious.  Perfect blue sky, cold drink, and a good book.  The book was Mutant Message Down Under.  It made me want to go on a walkabout.
  • There was a lot of breakfast experimentation.  Including the hash I posted on Friday.  #yolkporn

Sweet Potato & Spinach Hash

  • I took a break from breakfast-making to make dinner.  It was a chicken curry dish.  That recipe is coming soon… curry is so freaking hard to get a decent picture of.
  • Vegas and I went to Padres orientation.  I got her season tickets for her birthday (therefore guaranteeing she’ll love me forever), and they do a little presentation to make sure everyone knows where to go and how to get tickets printed.  That was pretty boring, but YAY baseball!!!
  • I went hiking.  Twice.  Same two peaks, but once alone (here’s the review) and once with friends.  This week I’ll hit 3 more peaks to complete the 5 Peak Challenge.  I didn’t know that was a thing until a friend told me on the second hike!
We hiked ALL that!

We hiked ALL that!

Pyle's Peak hike

That was one hot hike.

  • I met a friend from Atlanta at a gym in San Diego this week.  We’ve been friends for 20 years… how crazy that we ended up in the same city?!  And we both lift – something I would have laughed at when we were 12.
  • Speaking of gyms, hiking, and soreness… we found a great chiropractor.  Apparently my neck is so far forward my spine thinks it’s holding up an extra 38 lbs.  I was given some exercises to do to help correct it.  Guess I should add actually doing said exercises to my to-do list…
  • I had a fantastic “Man Salad” with Vegas and some friends post-hike at Iron Pig Alehouse.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BCEQ7zIGjfo/

  • We watched Bridge of Spies.  Actually, we’re watching it while I type this.  Vegas chose the movie.  It’s actually not bad, I’m just bad at watching TV.
  • We also watched Nascar earlier.  Also not my choice.  Did I mention we’re going to a race?  Oy.
  • I got new shoes!  Mizuno sent these Catalysts over for me to try out.  I love them – super light!  More to come on that via Instagram.

Mizuno Catalyst[Tweet “2 hikes, new #WaveCatalyst shoes, shower drinks… it was a productive week! #fitfluential”]

***

I’m really excited for the next 3 peaks this week.  Apparently you get a certificate and a pin for doing all 5!

What’s on your to-do list?

Do you watch Nascar?  Baseball?

Love that man salad – and I don’t even care that they call it a ‘man’ salad – just pass me a fork!
You got a lot of shit done this past week, and a lot of really fun awesome shit too! High five for more weeks like that! 🙂

That was one productive week! Way to get shit done! And you are a very, very kind woman to willingly go to a Nascar race. Good luck with that! 😉

Jason has been bugging me to go to a NASCAR race but I keep using Alexander as an excuse. I did, however, win a bet yesterday on the Daytona 500. We chose drivers and the one that came in a better place won. I chose “the one that looks like our neighbor.” He came in 3rd.

And now that satisfies my quota of the most I will talk about NASCAR in my life!

    • Laura says

      February 26, 2016 at 11:54 PM

HA! I’ll let you know how bad it is.

Vegas asked me if I could name any other drivers besides Danica. I named like 3 or 4. This made her oddly happy. Whatever…

        February 27, 2016 at 6:22 AM

What we should do is you guys should come here, Vegas and Jason will go to a nascar race and you and I will go to Whole Foods! Everyone is happy!

First NASCAR race . . . have fun with that. I’ve never been to one, I’ve been to Formula One once, but didn’t get it.

      February 26, 2016 at 11:57 PM

I’m still trying to figure out what’s so awesome about driving in the same circle 500 times…

Sounds like you’re being super productive and trying lots of new things! Nascar is definitely not my thing but I think it’d be cool to check it out- let us know how it goes…

    • Laura says

      February 26, 2016 at 11:57 PM

I feel like I have gotten nothing done in the past week. Sure, there were some milestones in there, but I feel like I accomplished very little. I’m at the throw hands up in air and watch Nurse Jackie stage.

    February 22, 2016 at 8:34 AM

I am astonished. You read a book? I think I have never seen you with a book. And yay for leg day! Glad to hear you are doing better.
I need to fly over for the Baseball stuff. I still have 567567 question marks stringed together above my head when I think about the rules.
I hate hiking. But I love that you enjoyed the Amarone!

    • Laura says

      February 27, 2016 at 12:03 AM

Hey now! I used to read a lot! I just have stuff to do… like reading the Internet and going to the gym. 😛

P.S. Thank you again – it was delicious!

10K steps every day last week? That is no joke! I was surprised to realize how hard that is.
I think you should tell us how oil pulling goes. I’m skeptical, but love a good personal testimony.

    • Laura says

      February 27, 2016 at 12:08 AM

It is hard! Thankfully, I live in a walkable area so just getting to the gym is like 60% of my steps.

I like the pulling so far! I’ll do are recap after 2 weeks (apparently that’s how long it takes).

What a fun post!:) I tried oil pulling for a month awhile back. It was definitely not for me, but I hope it works for you!:) And that raspberry lemon tea you had sounds delish! It’s like May here in SC today too, very weird. Have a good week, Laura!

I am the same way with movies- even when I like them, I struggle to sit through them! And we just watched Bridge of Spies over the weekend, too. You got a lot done!

    • Laura says

I have the worst time sitting still! BUT we did watch The Martian this week and it held my attention much better.

blondie! i love it. What color next? and um, it’s hot here. I’m scared for summer. i tried oil pulling and lasted 5 minutes. I’m impatient

    • Laura says

      February 27, 2016 at 12:14 AM

Undecided on the color… but it’s happening next week!!!

The oil thing really doesn’t bother me. Coconut oil tastes good… the worst part is trying not to swallow it all.

  18. Kate says

    February 22, 2016 at 2:40 PM

See I do shower beers and wine baths. Although I know someone who does shower coffees, which is very much not my thing.

    • Laura says

      February 27, 2016 at 12:18 AM

I’m with you. I don’t think coffee has the same appeal.

Wow – huge congrats on getting the invoice made. Doesn’t it feel sooo good to get those things that have been on your list for so long finally done?
Oil putting – I just can’t. I don’t understand how any could actually swig oil in their mouth for that long. I can’t do anything for that long.
You rocked this week and I’m glad you serenaded yourself with some baths and home cooked meals. And hikes. So jealous.

    • Laura says

      February 27, 2016 at 12:22 AM

The oil thing isn’t that bad – coconut oil tastes good and I just swish it about while I’m catching up on email in the mornings. I don’t know if I could do it with something like olive oil though!

  21. Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says

    February 22, 2016 at 6:51 PM

Dude, you were a beast and I’m jealous of the champagne bubble bath. That’s my kind of lounging right there.

I did oil pulling for a couple days; it was meh. Took too much effort, and I got lazy. Besides, there are so many other things I’d rather put in my mouth. TWSS.

Love the color of your Mizunos- I feel like gym wear/shoes is one of the few items of clothing where we can get away up with wearing the loudest shades of color..the louder the better ;)! I can’t wait to read more about your oil pulling experience. Call me a wuss but I just can’t get past the idea of swishing oil in my mouth…that too, for 20 minutes!!

    • Laura says

      February 27, 2016 at 12:29 AM

The shoes just make me bounce… all that color. 🙂

Oil pulling really isn’t that bad! I like the taste of the coconut.

That’s funny/cool that they give up a pin for completing the 5 peak challenge. It’s been far too long since I hiked; I miss it.

I never understand watching Nascar. Watching cars go around in a circle??? Haha. Although I’m sure it is more exciting watching it live, as w any sports. That salad look delicious! Who wouldn’t love a salad w french fries on it. All about balance, Right?

I have been trying oil pulling as well and so far I am liking the results. I think it does help whiten my teeth! And I have those same Catalyst shoes and I LOVE them – cannot wait to run my first event in them.

    • Laura says

      February 27, 2016 at 12:58 AM

I’m liking it too! I can’t believe how clean my teeth feel!

  31. Tara @ Sweat like a Pig says

    February 24, 2016 at 9:48 AM

OK, there are so many things to comment on that I can’t remember them all. First of all, that salad sounds like the most amazing salad ever! If I ever come visit you, you must take me there! I’m really curious to hear how you go with oil pulling. I’ve heard good things about it from alternative types, but I actually trust your opinion!

What is a Reese’s heart and why have I never had one??

    • Laura says

      February 27, 2016 at 1:00 AM

Of course! You’d be in protein heaven.

I’ll do a recap on the oil thing after another week, but I like it so far! It doesn’t both me to have a mouth full of coconut oil for 20 mins… I even got Vegas doing it and she didn’t mind! So far I notice that my tongue and teeth feel cleaner/more fresh. I think you need at least 2 weeks to feel the rest.
