Christmas as an adult is the best.
Not that being 8 was bad either…
My sisters, my mom, and I are of the age where we’ve become friends. This makes Christmas one big party. We weren’t interested in gifts as much as we were in hanging out, cooking, eating, and getting toasty toasting.
My sister came from Portland with her puppy, my grandparents were there, and Vegas was in town. All of us packed in for 48 hours of fun. Here’s how we do it in the ‘burbs of Atlanta:

I just realized I left out the desserts I made! We had 8 additional people show up Christmas Even for desserts and drinks… it was so marvelous I forgot to take single picture! 🙂
What was the highlight of your holiday?
Does your family do the Christmas morning rush, or do you relax and enjoy brunch first?
Cat says
That may be the most impressive charcuterie I’ve ever seen! I agree – xmas is better now we’re grown up – less fighting over presents, more enjoyment over brussels sprouts… oh and the bucks fizz at breakfast 😉
Laura says
Thanks! It took us 2 days, but we demolished it!

I’m trying my best not to be envious here…but well.
I couldn’t get home for Christmas eve due to costs so I had Asian dumplings with some friends resulting in a lost bet and having to drink the chilli oil.
It was awesome.
Laura says
Good thing you’ll just come here next year! 😉

Cold cuts and cheese are the best apps!

Christmas morning craziness and then brunch- egg nog french toast sounds too amazing to happen second though. I’m dying about the picture of your sisters with their teas- thats totally something I would do to my sisters, hahaha!
Laura says
he best part is that they liked it. LOL!

Still in the stage of half adult/half kid Christmas still, but both are perfectly fine by me 🙂

Seems like an awesome Christmas! Me and the pup were so tired the day after… and I had to work a 24-hrs. shift which was sucky.
Lauren says
May we please have the eggplant lasagna recipe!?!?! That sounds incredible! I love that you and your siblings are close, it looks like y’all had a wonderful time.
We open presents first before breakfast because I have no concept of delayed gratification 😉
Laura says
I didn’t take very good pics, so I wasn’t going to post it… but here’s what I did. Let me know if you try it!
3 large Japanese eggplant
2 C ricotta
1/2 C goat cheese
1/4 C Parm
1 egg white
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp herbs de provence
1 onion, caramelized
2 cup sautéed kale
10 thin slices prosciutto
Marinara
1. Cut eggplant into long thin strips 1/4 inch thick, then brush with olive oil and bake at 400 for ~20 mins, flipping half way (until eggplant is tender).
2. Meanwhile, mix together cheeses, egg, pepper, and herbs. Coat the bottom of baking dish with sauce.
3. Layer slices of cooled eggplant and top with cheese mix, onions, kale, and prosciutto.
4. Top with marinara, more parmesan, and fresh herbs if have (basil, oregano, thyme)
5. Bake at 400 for 20-30 minutes, until bubbling.

Looks like such a fun holiday! It’s great that you’re able to have just as much fun as an adult, as you did as a kid 🙂 love it!

I love it! My brother and I get hammered together, but mom can’t handle more than a glass of wine and my dad can’t drink anymore due to liver issues (totally his own fault). My highlight was Christmas night with my best friend and her family. She’s like my sister, since we’ve been best friends since 1st grade. We like to drink too much wine and reminisce about the past but also make unrealistic plans for the future. =)
And we do the Christmas morning rush (kind of). We get started around 9, though it’s fairly slow, opening gifts with coffee, one person at a time, but since we do Christmas dinner with the entire family at like 2:00, everyone caters around my schedule—I gotta get in 10+miles before noon!
Laura says
It sounds like we could have Christmas together! 🙂
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
That’s a perfect way to do Christmas. Plus, it’s fitting it ended in bed.
