We all like a good quiz.
Or is that just me?
Today I have 2. One is Presidential in nature. Don’t worry. I’m not getting political on you. This is all about what they EAT. (Source article here.)
Check out the following food items and see if you can guess whether President Obama or Mitt Romney like to nosh on…
- Peanut butter and honey sandwich (I forgot about these! My mom used to make them for us all the time. YUM!)
- Meatloaf cakes (Cakes? Was the loaf not enough?)
- Pizza from Italian Fiesta Pizzeria (There is often pizza at fiestas…)
- Chili (This nominee also enjoys Gas X)
- Organic applesauce (This is tough… organic = hippie/democrat, but also expensive/rich)
- Pumpkin pie (Not to be confused with warm apple pie… or Stifler’s mom)
(answers at the end of this post)

Quiz #2 is all about fall.
I saw this quiz on Matt’s blog and thought it looked like fun. Since I’m in Tex-ass right now for work, I thought it was especially appropriate to “borrow” a quiz from a native Texan.
1. Apple picking or pumpkin picking?
Apples. We used to drive to the North GA mountains as a kid to pick apples. My favorite part was the little stores with their apple doughnuts and hot cider. And if we were good we got to stop for fudge in my favorite mountain town. I always got chocolate-peanut butter (not much has changed…).
My parents were brave getting 3 kids high on sugar and before an hour drive home.
2. Favorite apple recipe?
I am not a big fan of cooked apples, but I love my PB & Aggs (I add the apples at the very end so they are warm but still crisp) and my Apple-Carrot Muffins.
3. Favorite pumpkin recipe
That’s tough! Right now I’d say either my Pumpkin Protein Pancakes or Pumpkin Tiramisu Parfait. Side note: I do NOT like pumpkin pie. It’s too much.
4. Favorite soup recipe
Aside from the Butternut-Apple Soup I’m making for my Taste of Atlanta demo on Sunday (‘scuse the shameless plug), I adore Babaganoush Soup. It almost makes me look forward to cold weather. Almost.
5. Football: on TV or in the stadium?
It depends on the temperature outside, the importance of the game, and the quality of the seats. If it’s a good game that I want to watch closely and the seats aren’t good, I’d rather be inside. If the seats are good and it’s 75 degrees I’m all about the energy of the stadium! If the weather is good, the seats are bad, and I don’t care about the game I’d also rather be in the stands. It’s complicated.
6. Favorite football team to cheer for?
It was Georgia Tech. Until they lost to Middle Tennessee Girl’s School last weekend.
7. Daylight savings time: Love it or hate it?
I like to sleep in, so falling back is fine by me. Springing forward sucks. I still don’t fully understand why we do this…
8. How do your workouts change during the fall months?
They don’t change much now that I’m focused on weight lifting. They gym is temperature controlled. When I was running, I would typically do other forms of cardio (like kickboxing or this interval workout) when it got too chilly. The cold air hurts my lungs.
Also, I have Raynaud’s disease so that is not fun when it’s freezing out. White, numb fingers and toes that last for hours is creepy.
9. Any fashion essentials for fall weather?
Boots. With or without the fur. Definitely without the whole club lookin’ at herrrr.
10. Do your meals change when the weather changes?
For sure! I try to eat seasonal produce, and most of my meals are warm. Have I mentioned I hate being cold?
You’ll see a lot of Italian-inspired foods like this vegan Eggplant Rollatini.
11. Favorite fall dessert?
Dessert isn’t seasonal for me. I don’t like cooked apples or masses of pumpkin, so none of the traditional pies. We do have a Kentucky Derby Pie that is made every Thanksgiving. Bourbon, pecans, and chocolate chips… you really can’t go wrong.
12. Best thing about fall?
I love the colors when the leaves change, crisp mountain air, and FOOTBALL!
13. Worst thing about fall?
Cold. I’d be happy with 75-80 degree temps year round.
14. Best thing that will happen in Fall of 2012?
It’s already busy, but I’m looking forward to my first figure competition!
I also can’t wait to hang out with Allie this weekend (possibly again in Nov for NPC Nationals), and hopefully seeing Heather in November. Love my weird-o foodie friends.

I almost forgot! The Presidential preference answers are…
- Peanut butter and honey sandwich: ROMNEY
- Meatloaf cakes: ROMNEY
- Pizza from (in Chicago): OBAMA
- Organic apple sauce: ROMNEY
- Chili: OBAMA
- Pumpkin pie: OBAMA

Allie comes in town tonight!!! Saturday we have leg day and go to posing practice with my trainer. Dine like kings queens at Cakes & Ale. Cooking demo Sunday. Could this weekend rock any harder?!
Tell me one of your fall favorites. Any seasonal recipes to share?
How did you do on the Presidential food quiz?
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama says
Totally bombed on the Presidential quiz! I’m still confused by Meatloaf Cake. Yuck!
Love pumpkin, don’t like pumpkin pie. Love the pics of your Raynaud’s hands. I’ve got the same problem. No matter what mittens, gloves I wear, my hands end up looking like that and it HURTS!! I still run, snowboard, snowshoe and other outdoor activities. If not, I’d go crazy all winter!
Laura says
Same here – thank god for hand warmers!
Khushboo says
That’s so fun that you and Allie are hanging out together this weekend- am sure you ladies will have a blast :)! Although there is no sense of fall in Mumbai (it’s SO hot), the blog world has made me embrace the season ha! I adore cooked apples so unsurprisingly my favorite fall dessert is anything apple-based….served a la mode naturally! At the risk of being thrown out of the blog world, I am yet to embrace pumpkin…I can do without! Have a great weekend, Laura!
Laura says
We did have a blast!! And we both talked about how we wish it could be hot year-round ere. 🙂
lindsay says
i wish visitng austin was on that fall list. Love the fall season because it usually is 70F here. and moe squash, duh.
Kierston says
I love my Fall boots! I love scarves too! 🙂
Cait @ Beyond Bananas says
Yay.. I am glad you filled out the quiz! I had fun making it! 🙂
We are going back and forth between boot weather. I really wanted to wear mine today but somehow its going to be 80 degrees!
Laura says
I don’t know how I completely missed the fact that you MADE it! LOL! Thank you. 🙂
Alex @ therunwithin says
oh my gosh I get those same white spots on my hands in the winter, it was due to getting frost bite when I was in high school. ugh makes me hate the winter.
Danielle says
Love this quiz! I’m totally with you on Pumpkin pie too! While I love all things Pumpkin I actually hate Pumpkin Pie! Glad I’m not alone 😉
Laura says
I’m glad I’m not alone too! I’ve been surprised at hoe many people agree. 🙂
Jessie says
Ha, I use to HATE pumpkin pie.. but I randomly started liking it this past year? not sure why, but hey i’ll take it! Love reading all of your other answers. Have a kick a$$ weekend girl xo
Laura says
I got the meatloaf cakes right, but messed up all the others… it was harder than it sounded! Enjoy your time in Texas… if you ever pass through Houston and have an extra minute, give me a holler. 🙂
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
We went apple picking last weekend and it was a blast! I am seriously loving on the apples right now, but I have my pumpkins ready to roast now too! I love them both equally!
My fingers turn white too in the colder months. I HATE that! If I eat anything cold they immediately turn white and hurt like heck!
Laura says
I’m the same way! I cannot hold a sno-cone to hsave my life!
Olivia Hill says
Totally agree with you on the Georgia Tech note. So disappointing. I felt pretty bad for the football players on campus this week, everyone was shooting them dirty looks. Maybe we can pull it out for the Clemson game this weekend?! (I’m not getting my hopes up.)
Laura says
That was a terrible game, wasn’t it? 🙁
Allie says
Fall cold is NOT a favorite of mine either–I got even MORE excited about this trip when I saw that ATL isn’t going to be nearly as cold as Nash this weekend ;D
Debbie @ Live from La Quinta says
I have Reynaud’s too. I have to keep my hands (and feet) warm, or they look just like that picture. Even happens in the freezer section of the grocery store sometimes 🙂
That being said. my view of fall weather is a little different, since it is still in the 90s here (the last few days I would have said still in the 100s!). I’m looking forward to a little fall “cold.” Say around 75. Brrrr.
Laura says
I’m the same way in the grocery store! We have a year-round farmer’s market here that is kept so cold that I have to shop in mittens!
Jenny$1983 says
That’s so weird … I have Raynaud’s too, but I actually suffer worse in the warmer weather: although I lose all feeling in my hands and feet when it’s cold and that hurts so much, in hotter weather they swell up, go livid purple and do this clammy/sweaty thing that also hurts as if my skin will burst. And of course I can’t wear flip-flops or open-toed shoes or anything (which would alleviate the problem) because I’m too embarrassed for anyone to see my feet. I find it easier to warm up than I do to cool down. Yay for Raynaud’s :-/
I love apple crumble and apple pie, but that’s at any time of year! Pumpkin pie is not big in England so I have no idea what it’s like 😀 I really like your pumpkin pancakes though!
Laura says
I didn’t know it did the reverse in the warmer weather! Maybe that’s why my toes get all red and puffy in super hot weather.
Alysha @Shesontherun says
I’ve heard of that finger condition but I’ve never seen a pic before. That’s crazy! It was 40 in Wisconsin this morning. Is it spring yet?!
Laura says
40?! I am not looking forward to those mornings…
Life's a Bowl says
Haha awesome quizzes! I totally am looking forward to apple picking this weekend, it’s #1 on my fall bucket list 🙂 And lots of foods containing apple/ cinnamon/ pumpkin should definitely be consumed this time of the year!
Calee (@chimes) — life + running says
ah … so there’s a name for that? I have the same thing with my fingers and toes. It is seriously hours. I used to run in – 10° too.
Laura says
10 dergees spells rest day to me… LOL!
Holly says
Honey and peanut butter, never heard of it, but it sounds so good. I may need to have that for breakfast tomorrow.
Also, I think your babaganoush soup is one of my favorite soup recipes too. It’s awesome.
Laura says
Really?! Thank you so much!
Rachel @ My Naturally Frugal Family says
Is it wrong that I was excited to click on the post because “quiz” was in the title?
I LOVE quizzes and enjoy being tested (I think it is because I am a tad bit competitive)…just nothing that involves needles or blood.
I got 5 out of 6 on the Presidential quiz and this is a big weekend for me, I have my first 5k. A little excited and a little nervous. More excited though and I hope that I do enjoy the experience and want to go and run a bunch more of these things 🙂
Have a great time with your weekend festivities!
Laura says
Competitive? You fit right in here. 🙂
Hope you killed that 5K!!!
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
Peanut butter and honey sandwiches are one of my all time favorites!! I prefer them to PB&J. Yeah, I said it! And I love you for those little comments after the quiz questions. And.. you don’t like pumpkin pie? That makes me sad for some reason. I feel like you like all the good things in life. I think I need to stop typing. Things just got weird.
Laura says
LOL! Carol! Don’t me sad. I like all things I think are good in life… 😉
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables says
I love this fall quiz! You need to come visit me for some real Kentucky Derby Pie!
I hate the cold of fall, but I love pumpkin and winter squash!! oh and… FOOTBALL!
Laura says
THAT sounds like a fabulous plan. 🙂
Tessa @ Amazing Asset says
Whoops I didn’t do very well on that quiz! Ahh well, I never pay attention to politics….ever lol
I love this quiz, how fun is it! The thing I don’t like about fall is that it transitions into winter! If we could just skip to spring, that would be perfect 😉
Laura says
Well, I don’t think they covered ‘”avorite sandwich” in the debate last week. I would have paid more attention if they had! 😉
Heather @ Better With Veggies says
Where did you find the presidential food info – that was great! And I laughed out loud at your football team comment…and then read it to Kirk…GO DAWGS!! 🙂
I really hope you’re coming to visit in November, although I am thinking it’s going to be cold then. But I promise it’s awesome!! =)
Have so much fun with Allie this weekend – I’m so jealous!
Laura says
I poach it from Creative Loafing – there’s a link to their artilce with all the original sources.
You know how I LOVE the cold… we’ll need hot cider drinks and toasted marshmallows (vegan, obv).
Lisa says
I HATE cooked apples as well! I don’t know what it is about them. Maybe just the mushiness? Who knows ha ha.
I think I may need to do this quiz next week. I’m a sucker for them.
Laura says
I think it is the mushiness – it’s reminiscent of a mealy apple. Blech.
Choc Chip Uru says
Haha I didn’t stand a chance with the president quiz but it was awesome to learn about you more! Your tastes are so similar to mine, somehow we must be related 😉
Cheers
Choc Chip Uru
Candy @ Healthy In Candy Land says
I thought for sure the organic apple sauce was Obama! But I got the rest right.
For Fall I love anything containing apples–tomorrow I am making gf apple crisp, which I am more than excited about. I’ve discovered just this season that I’m really not that big a fan of pumpkin, which is crazy because don’t all food bloggers go cookoo for pumpkin? 🙂 Except I do like pumpkin bread or scones, and savory dishes like pumpkin curry.
Anyway, fun post!
Laura says
I did too!
Pumpkin scones sounds really good. I don’t know that I’ve had one!
Hannah says
Raynaud’s sympathy. It’s the reason I’m quietly apprehensive about my Canada plans. Boo to purple with pink spots hands!
Laura says
I bet! it’s already cold there, right? Get some hand warmers! 🙂
Simply Life says
what a fun quiz! a favorite fall flavor is definitely maple and pecans together!
Laura says
That sounds fabulous! I love maple.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
What fun quizzes…I liked your little asides best though.
Like you, I could live in 75 or even 80 degree weather all the time. Once the temperatures drop, I’m constantly cold. Right now my hands are little balls of ice. Too bad I can’t type on my iPad with mittens on.
Laura says
I think I saw special iPad mittens somewhere…
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
I must find these since it’s only October and I’m already cold!
Natasha says
I’ve really wanted to try your pb and aggs or pb and jeggs recipes – they look so frickin good!!!!!!
I totally agree that the changing of the leaves is the best thing about fall!!!!
Good luck on your upcoming competition – can’t wait to see what happens for you 🙂
Laura says
I’m a little addicted to them… please let me know what you think if you do try them! 🙂
Thank you so much!!
Laura @ LauraLivesLife says
I think this just reinforces my vote…
Laura says
LOL! Mine too.
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
Ooooh this is fun. I think I need to just do a whole week of survey posts because I keep flagging them all and never doing them. Would that be too much ‘me’ time for the blog world?
I hate the cold, but I love the fall. October/November are the best months for me, because some days I can still get away with flip flops, and I don’t need gloves (usually) or a heavy coat. Once I start fearing for my life before going outside I become very unhappy.
Thanks for the reminder about Baba Ghanoush soup! I need that in my life. [I have never actually made it but always wanted to…]
Laura says
Haha – you should combine them all into one epic post.
You do need to make the soup! Mostly because I want to see what craziness you’d add to it. 🙂
Kara says
Hey! I just found your blog & I’m definitely enjoying it! I’m curious, what is your favorite mountain town? I’m from Dahlonega – home of ‘The Fudge Factory’ – so I was wondering if that’s what you were referring to. If so, small world! 🙂
Laura says
Thank you! You guessed correctly – I love Dahlonega!
