Most people don’t like rainy days.
I love them.
I realized how much I loved the rain after moving to San Diego, where it rarely rains. There’s something really peaceful about a hard rain or the occasional thunderstorm. I really missed them!
This rain these past few weeks has actually been pleasant for me! Peacefulness aside, it washes away the pollen and cools things down. So much so that I get in my longest run post-ACL surgery. I normally can do more than a 5K because I have NO idea how to pace myself. I may have found the key though: putting on a history podcast. I’m so focused on listening that I forget about running as fast as I can. Educational podcasts, for the win.
Enough about rainbows and running. Here’s my (semi-homemade) #WIAW.
Be sure to link up to Jenn’s WIAW baby at the bottom!
Breakfast:
I made my morning cocktail before walking to work in the rain. I’m hardcore like that.
At work, I ate my standard breakfast. I *almost* quit eating them when I found hair in one (it 100% wasn’t my hair), butttttt… they’re just so convenient. Haven’t died yet… so it must be fine. 😉
Lunch:
Today we had a local middle eastern restaurant cater lunch at work. Brown food doesn’t photograph well – especially under fluorescent lights – but it sure is tasty! I have two helpings of shwarma deliciousness.
Dinner:
I’ve eaten this 5-Minute Chicken Taco Bowl 4 in as many days. It’s quick. It’s easy. And it’s delicious. Try it.

Dessert:
Back in my figure competition days, I used to make epic dessert bowls every night. Most of them were Greek yogurt-based (because protein), laced with veggies, and naturally sweetened with Stevia. Lately, I’ve been back on that train. My all-time favorite is the carrot cake batter (← SUPER old post), but this zucchini bread version is a really close second.
Last night’s toppings were peanut flour mixed with sugar-free syrup and almond milk, plus a sprinkle of hemp hearts.

I say I like the rain, but I’m still looking forward to a sunny weekend with Vegas!
Would you still eat a bar you found hair in?
What’s your favorite healthier dessert?
Patrick@looneyforfood.com says
I have definitely found gross things in food before but if I really like it, Ill go back for more. That quick taco sure does look good and I am still amazed at your awesome work lunches!
Laura says
HA! I’m glad it’s not just me. 😉
Jess @ Jessica Cording Nutrition says
What a beautiful rainbow! And gotta love those 5-minute meals!
Elizabeth at Reserved for Running says
I know what you mean about rain! I lived in San Diego for 5 years and it is beautiful and awesome, but the lack of rain or change in weather really got to me after the first year. I grew up on the East coast so I was used to seasons. My first rain storm after leaving San Diego was amazing!
Laura says
People think I’m crazy when I tell them I missed home, but it was hard without the seasons! And the people. 🙂
Cora says
I do like the rain. Not every day… but a misty rainy morning is one of my favorite feelings to wake up to. And that rainbow freshness afterward. #cantbeatit
Ya.. I’ll eat anything. Hairs don’t bother me. I blame my Dad for my complete lack of food hygiene.
Laura says
100% agree! Rain in moderation. 🙂
Nicole @ Laughing My Abs Off says
LOL I can’t get over the fact that your key to running long is a history podcast. NERD ALERT 😉 I love it though.
And OMG hair in packaged food is actually the worst. My roommate once found a hair BAKED into a cluster of granola. The worst part is when she emailed the granola company to complain they told her she was making it up to get freebies. Needless to say, we stopped buying that company lol.
Laura says
I did it again this weekend too! Good thing it’s a 5-hour long podcast. I can get like 5 runs out of it! 😉
Thios was totally baked into the bar! I tweeted them, but no response. Oh well. It’s not as bad as the time there was a staple in my Amy’s burrito I guess…
Kate says
I’m much happier looking at the rain from inside a warm, dry home.
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
I love your healthy dessert bowls! I totally have a sweet tooth at night as well – and sometimes during the day too 🙂 I cannot believe you found a hair in your bar haha gross !
Laura says
Oh, there’s always dark chocolate somewhere near me! Preferably hair-free.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
I love thunder storms and podcasts, although I can’t get ear buds to stay in my ears when I run. Boo hiss.
Joann @ Woman in Real Life says
I love to listen to the rain from inside the house…but not go out. My fave healthy dessert is nice cream made with strawberries, banana and a few cherries. I throw some chocolate chips in after too! 🙂
Laura says
Oh yeah – not getting stuck in traffic during a storm is KEY!
Lynn @ Oh-So Yummy says
but… it’s pre-packaged with a hair? it would be better if i didn’t know about it! yikes. i wish i ate more fruit. it helps when it is pre-cut for sure!
Laura says
Yes. Yes, it was. *barf*
Deborah @Confessions of mother says
I don’t mind when it rains in the summer and it cools things down. Cold, dreary rains not so much. I did not follow you when you were competing-I would love for you to post those sometime!
Laura says
Oh, they’re all on the blog! Here’s one for your reading pleasure. LOL! https://www.sprint2thetable.com/work-it-out-figure-competition/
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
I used to listen to true crime podcasts while doing cardio. Now I listen to Nerdist, You Made it Weird, and a few others when it is just me and I’m not in the gym. If I’m in the gym, I read while doing cardio and listen to music.
I find hair in everything. I probably would try to assess if it was mine or the dog’s… We find her hair at restaurants, after all. And I know that it is hers.
I miss the summer squals in the south. but there is nothing better than spring sunshine in ATL.
Laura says
I’ll check those out next – thanks for the suggestions!
Dude. I cannot do animal hair. I’m sure human hair is gross too, but I just… can’t.
Emily Swanson says
I LOVE rainy days and Middle Eastern food. Rainy days are so cozy, and the smell after it rains smells like God has just washed the earth. It’s sooo sweet.
Laura says
Yes! That post-rain smell in the spring is everything. Plus, it washes away the evil pollen!
Mary says
I love rainy days. It’s the artist in me, rainy days are the best days to create! Happy you know that you love rainy days just as much as I do. 🙂 I love changing your focus to listening instead of focusing on running. I really need to try these Chocolate chip cookie dough bars, I love cookie dough 🙂 I’m a sucker for falafel so I don’t mind all the brown foods. I’m going to try your carrot cake batter
Laura says
The bars are good, just avoid the hair. LOL!
Funny… I just made falafel tonight! Recipe to come as soon as I’m home when it’s light enough for pics. Work problems.
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
I am the same. I never realised how much I missed rain until we moved to Perth. And I crave snow!
And I can’t lie, I probably would have ditched the hair bar and simply gotten another. Carrying on like nothing happened. Total 5 second rule kinda girl!
Laura says
Dude. I didn’t even get another bar. I just threw out the little section with the hair. LOL!
Lindsay says
That’s how I felt when I went back to Austin. Rain over snow was kinda pleasant. But not humidity! Haha. Hug Lucie and Meghan for me. <3
Laura says
Humidity and pollen are killer.
You need to come visit next!!!
