Freedom.
It makes me happy.
After a week of boring, #stinkypee eats, lean white protein and asparagus are NOT What I Ate Wednesday.Â
My post-competition trip to Whole Paycheck Foods was the stuff of dreams. Â I had a list and nothing but time.
2 hours later I emerged from Whole Foods almost $200 poorer and without a single piece of meat in my cart. Â I even skipped the bacon (the line at the meat counter was too long).
Of course I had to fuel up properly before making this epic grocery trip.  Toad in the Hole made with P28 High Protein Bread and a local farm egg.  Cooked in truffle oil and topped with sriracha.  Welcome back, #yolkporn.Â

I’m so happy to get to post a semi-normal What I Ate Wednesday!  I say semi-normal because It has been a busy day and I didn’t get to be quite a funk with my foods… and I went to an election night gathering… so I had a bug ‘ol treat dinner.  Woot!
Also different is how my meals are labeled. Â No “Meal 1, Meal 2,” etc. this week! Â I ate a proper Breakfast-Lunch-Snack-Dinner. Â I’ll have another meal plan soon, but these are my days “off” before we start training again. Â I hate to admit it… but I kind of missed eating more meals!
Check out my semi-good habit eats below, and then click here to head over to Jenn @ Peas and Crayons to get to see how everyone else ate on Election Day.

Breakfast:
Somethings will never change.  I started out with my morning cocktail (mix of Apple Cider Vinegar, Glutamine, and Fitmixer Aminos).
This was followed by my TVP “Oatmeal” done up apple pie-style. Â I add apple pie spice and mixed in fresh apple at the end. Â Topped with a peanut butter drizzle and cinnamon.
Lunch:
I brought my leftover’s from last night’s dinner to work.  Roasted brussels, cauliflouwer, and baby bellas.  I tossed then in salty fish sauce, red peppe flakes, and coconut oil pre-roasting.
The noodles are kelp noodles. Â I heated them in hot water to soften and toss in a pad thai-ish sauce. Â I’m enjoying my freedom from measurement, but here are the ingredients for the sauce:
- Peanut flour
- Unsweetened almond milk
- Grated ginger
- Lime juice
- Cayenne
- 1 drop lemon Stevia
Still trying to get my protein in (and because I wanted them), I had a bag of Veggie Pizza Protein Puffs from Kay’s Naturals.  I ordered online; click here to find them and get 20% off your order.Â
Snack:
Pumpkin hummus, cauliflower, and edamame.
Eating carbs mid afternoon still feels so scandalous!
Dinner:
I spent the evening with my friends Todd and Jeff watching the election results like some people watch football games. Â If people watch football with Malbec and cookbooks…
Election Day = pizza night! Mellow Mushroom pizza (side note: I worked there in college for a hot minute) with meatballs, red peppers, and feta cheese with a side salad. Â
Look at this plate and that glass of wine above. Â Then multiply it by 2. Â It was a 2x dinner. Â
Dessert:
A celebration bowl of pumpkin ice cream (real ice cream – full fat and yummy) topped with a crumbled cinnamon muffin and chocolate syrup.
***
The protein count for the day: KIDDING!!! Â I have NO idea. Â Freedom from numbers.
What’s the most you’ve ever spent on groceries?
Did you do any election night partying?
I just got around to trying the Fitmixer Aminos I received at FitBloggin. I’m really enjoying them so far! I tried doing a search on your blog, but I couldn’t find a post that discusses your morning cocktail in more detail. I’d love to hear more about this! Could you please point me in the right direction?
I’m sure it exists somewhere in my WIAW… but I have no idea where anymore. LOL! Are you looking for measurements? , I use the prescribed amounts for each brand I use. So I use 1 scoops of Fitmixer aminos and 1 tsp of glutamine. I don’t measure the ACV anymore… but it’s somewhere between 1-2 tablespoons. I mix it with water in a 16 oz glass.
The ACV is great for “digestion” to start the day. It combined with the Aminos is really energizing. My trainer told me to take the glutamine first thing (I take another serving at night). Let me know if this answers your question!
Go big or go home, love it! I have to say that I don’t think I’ve ever hit $200 on a single grocery bill, but that’s probably because I don’t have a Whole Foods near me. Glad to see you living it up, girl! Enjoy every delicious bite!
Oh man, you don’t even want ot know how much I’ve spent on groceries. Yay for freedom you rock star you!!!!! I don’t know if I ever got to say congrats on your competition. So happy for you! Enjoy ALL your awesome eats this week!!!!! Wish we could celebrate together.
I’ve seen your Costco hauls! It’s an impressive thing to behold.
Thank you!!! I wish we could too. They sell wine at Costco… 😉
Yay for pizza and ice cream! Looks like we have similar ‘treat foods’. It’s interesting to see that your post-competition diet is still relatively clean. At least before dinner. 😉
I find it’s easy to eat clean during the day since I’m packing food for work… dinners out are my downfall!
Let freedom ring!!! That can have multiple meanings today. 🙂
Im election morning partying 🙂
Freeeeeeeeeeeeeedom! Cue William Wallace, bagpipes, kilts, and of course, blue face paint! 😉
Ahhh, so good to see “peanut butter drizzle” instead of peanut flour sauce! I mean, I love me some peanut flour, but it just doesn’t beat having the real thing…especially over a warm bowl of
oatmealFAUXmeal! Mmm, I want some pizza puffs! And some of THAT pizza! Oh it’s been too long since I’ve been to Mellow Mushroom! They’re magical mystery pizza is what dreams are made of!Most I’ve spent on groceries? I’d say it was probably close to $200…on one of my Whole Foods/TJ runs…guess where I spent more? 😉
No partying for me. Just work. Boo!
You are so right. I love my PF but there’s nothing like a big glob of melty PB.
One. More. Day!!!
Looks like an amazing array of eats! I loved watching the results come in last night! I couldn’t go to bed until I knew Obama had won!
Were you wearing your t-shirt???
those puffs are intriguing me!
They were ok… Cheetos are better. 😉
Ah, the joy of free eats! Pizza would so be on my list too.
And I have to know where you find these Dora edamame things. Yes, I latched on to the one kid thing in this post. Haha.
They are from the Dekalb farmer’s Market. I can pick you up a package next time I go… or are you still thinking about coming down Saturday to hang with Allie and Heather? We are planning a market trip too!
How did you like Kay’s Pizza Puffs? I was debating on whether or not to order them. I need reviews girl!!!
They are decent… they are no Cheetos though. I still like the cereal the best.
Enjoy the freedom! And if you’re thinking another competition in March, then you only have a couple months of “normal” meals before the asparagus and 6 meals can return. 😉
I know… they meal plan returns tomorrow but no asparagus for a while still. 😉
Freedom from numbers and asparagus!! HOORAY!!! 😀 That pizza looks out of this world tasty mmm
And I’ll have to check out that cereal, it sounds pretty good!
salty fish sauce?? what is that? please share!
Fish Sauce can be found in the Asian section of pretty much any grocery store. It’s great for soups and stir-fry!
woohoo! now that sounds like my kind of dinner and reading, minus the football! and I do the same with the kelp noodles. Don’t ever have semi normal eats, it’s not your (our) nature. And I like it that way!
No football? *gasp*
I really want to start reading more again. Maybe wine would encourage me…
All the food looks so good!
I have a love hate relationship with whole foods, yummy produce but o so pricey!
The kelp noodles and the protein puffs look good. I haven’t found the TVP yet, but love the idea of adding it into oats and other things to pump up the protein. Have a great day, Laura!
I’m surprised your grocery store doesn’t carry it! I can find the Bob’s Red Mill brand at Kroger.
No protein count- yay! That must feel good. Mmm, pumpkin ice cream… we need to find some of that. So glad you can enjoy a few treats these days, you earned it!
It was the Turkey Hill brand of ice cream – SO good. 🙂
Yay for normal eats and yolk porn LOL! I’m so glad you’re enjoying your new-found freedom 🙂
Something about you saying porn make me giggle. 🙂
Yay freedom from numbers!
I love how you have “real” (underlined) bread on your grocery list. I take it as you were starting to miss that! :-p
I mayyyyy have gone a bit bread crazy…
Kelp noodles 0.0 That sounds uber cool! I would miss eating so many meals too but hey at least now you can eat whatever you truly enjoy 😀 Take advantage of that while it lasts 😉
Yay! When do you have to start training again?
First day back was today!
Ok that sauce sounds really interesting. I need to mark that and try it out.
It was awesome! I kind of wish I’d measured… LOL!
Love the back to normal eats! That pumpkin ice cream is so well deserved!!! I would so excited not to be weighing and measuring everything! and no more asparagus!
No election night partying here…I fell asleep around 11:30. I knew going to bed that President Obama was the likely winner but when Vishnu finally got in a bit later, I turned to him and asked who won. He said Romeny and I yelled WHAT?! He laughed and told me he was kidding. What a prankster!
That was so WRONG! LOL!
This post makes me so happy because YOU seem so happy 🙂 love you, twin
Mellow Mushroom is amazing. Love it! I just met friends there on Friday night, and surprisingly enough, I wasn’t even the one who chose the restaurant. 😉
Now I want mellow mushroom for breakfast! Yum! Enjoy the Freedom!
I love pizza breakfasts!
I want to “like” everything on this post. However… I have a question.. do you ever really stick to your whole foods list? I’m not sure I know how. I go in with a list and see something I forgot, something on sale, or something delicious and it ends up in the cart.
Noooo… that list is just so I don’t forget stuff. I bought a bunch of other things. 🙂
hahah I love the Dora the Explorer edamame…where did you get those?????
Sadly I didn’t even watch the election because I had to turn in early due to a nasty cold….ugh!
I spend a lot on groceries…especially from whole foods. But I somehow justify it that I obviously need to be healthy for my own personal sanity. Plus, I pretty much spend the majority of my money on food and nothing else,so that is really the only cost I worry about. But again, good health is worth it to me 🙂
BTW you look amazing in your competition photos!! So inspiring! Well done!
xoxo
At the farmer’s market. They have EVERYTHING!
Thank you!!!
ya for some delicious eats! so well deserved. so deserved. plus it all looks amazingly delicious.
YIKES $200? I think the most I’ve ever spent is like $120, and that was Mark and me combined.
Hahaha… $120 is child’s play. 😉
Better eats than what I have ahd this morning…coworker brought in donuts…my only weakness! (i lie I have several others :P)
Were they Krispy Kreme?
Nice one, Laura! A grocery shopping spree sounds like my kind of fun!! 🙂
Rob and wandered past a new tea store and dropped $60 on 3 teas. Gourmet teas, oh my!! 🙂
When do you start training again? Hopefully the peanut butter love will continue for a bit longer. 🙂
Teas are easy to spend $$$ on!
I started training again today. It left SO good to be back in the gym. 🙂
Oh so yummy! And I guess Whole Foods will do that to you. But regardless, I’m so happy you can relax for a little bit. I know training is awesome, but this post makes post competition look pretttty good too!
So great that you’re “back” to normal foods! 😀 Still healthy foods, still mindful eating, but eating what you enjoy – must feel great after all that asparagus! Loved your post on what you learned too…how inspiring is that man in the wheelchair? And how inspiring are you to me?! …very. 😀
Thank you, Bonnie!! There have been a few indulgences… ok, more than a few… but it feels ok knowing I’m back on the wagon soon (and that I deserve a few days off!).
I don’t think I’ve ever spent $200 on groceries before, but I ever did a figure competition, I’m pretty sure I would go crazy at the grocery store too! 😉 That must be so nice to get to eat egg yolks, pizza and ice cream again!
I ended up going to an election party last night but didn’t drink any booze or eat anything TOO bad except too many handfuls of this chex mix chocolate stuff…I think it’s called Mud…buddy…mud…butter I don’t know what the hell it was but damn it was good!
I think the most I ever spent at the grocery store was probably under $200. I tend to stick to $120-$150 most times I go and I try my best to stretch it out for an entire month if possible. I mean I’m just one person so you would think this wouldn’t be a problem but I tend to eat a ton of veggies (I blame the Vitamix for making it so damn easy) so I sometimes go 1x a week to stock up again. I really need to either invest in a CSA or just make the trip to our West Side Market here….it’s kind of famous and I’m ashamed as a Clevelander I’ve only been there once in my lifetime.
We call that stuff Puppy Chow. It should be called Crack! 🙂
I spent close to $400 on groceries the week we had our going away party…but we did eat that cheese for the next several months since I WAY overestimated (unopened, of course). 🙂
Haha – good thing that cheese was so good!
Welcome back! (At least for a little while…how long do you get to eat without restriction?)
I honestly go to the grocery store so often than I have a hard time keeping track of my weekly totals. I never seem to spend a lot, but I’m sure with my frequency it adds up…I’m SUCH a frugal shopper though that I probably don’t do TOO much damage in the long run.
Oh Mellow Mushroom…the BBQ Chicken Pizza was my dream meal my fourth year of college….#timeshavechanged
Til tomorrow. Sigh. 🙂
Skipped the bacon??? Say it ain’t so!! Make up for it and tell me what Malbec you were drinking then.
Most I ever spent shopping?? Hmmmm how about over $550 at Costco in Montana. That was groceries for two people. 😉
The line was so long! I was at a friend’s house…. can’t remember the bottle they had. Nothing terribly special. Have a great Brunello at dinner last night though. 🙂
$550 for 2?! Did you buy a whole buffalo?
Wahoooo. It must be nice to take a break from all the competition eats (ahem, asparagus). Pumpkin ice cream is VERY much deserved! Oh gosh, I don’t even know the most I’ve spent on groceries. Probably a lot when I first moved and had to get all the basics again.
YOU DESERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got to check out that bread & if I can find it close to me….. I LOVE BREAD! 🙂 I eat plenty of healthy bread & I am fine! The super low carb stuff really tastes bad so I find good breads that meet my needs.
Love the recipes as always! Love Whole Foods too although too expensive in general for me. I do get some of my treat cookies there! I also saw a cool CNBC show on all WF does to get good product though – they do go the extra mile….
ENJOY!!!!!!
I order it online – they don’t have it in stores here. It’s worth it though!!
I’m happy for you and I’m glad you feel good, and not guilty, about eating whatever you want now! Dieting can be a mind trip!
It was really weird that first day. I didn’t know what to do!
Ooooh…I’ve never heard of Veggie Pizza Protein Puffs before!
Great post-comp eats! Especially the pizza!!! 🙂
You have to check out Kay’s! The cereal rocks.
“Free at Last. Thank God Almighty, Free at Last!”
I’m so happy you get food freedom and full fat ice cream again. Go get your eat on and then some. You earned it.
LOL! That was exactly how I felt, Miss. Scarlet.
Your post-competition eats are still pretty darn clean, my friend! Even ‘pumpkin’ in your ice cream!
Can’t wait to hear about what you’re training for next!
Trust me, that ice cream had NO redeeming qualities. Other than the taste, of course. 🙂
The only partying I did was under the covers asleep! lol… I’m such a grandma!! 🙂 I love mellow mushroom!! I esp love that they have GF and dairy free pizza!!
pizza.. wine… and pumpkin ice cream! sounds like my type of night. I feel like everytime I get pizza now I have to have wine! It is so weird but they go hand in hand!
They do! So much better than beer.
Nom nom. I spend an easy $300 some weeks but I’m trying to feed a monster sized husband so… Yeah that is no excuse. Heh. No election night party but I was glued to the tv until 4 am. I was jello yesterday. Yay freedom!
I know! I was too excited to sleep.
Glad the yolk porn is back! The fact that you still choose to eat TVP over oatmeal after the comp is further proof that I need to try it. I am just being a cheap wuss about buying a whole bag in case I hate it. I guess I can always make other things with it.
It is really, really good. So yeah, you should try it. 🙂 It’s actually pretty cheap! And a little does a long way since you buy it dried.
Good for you! I like how this post played off of “freedom” in two different ways. It must feel so amazing/weird to not have to count everything or eat a certain way. I definitely would have pizza and ice cream for dinner as a meal after being so strict too. Pumpkin hummus sounds delicious!
Thanks! I thought I didn’t like the hummus at first, but it has grown on me!
It feels like old times seeing three meals and a snack from you…however I know soon enough you will be back to the numbered meals.
I am glad you enjoyed your election night festivities. I didn’t do any partying but I did watch some of the returns with my 10 year old. He was interested and had questions. I thought what better time to show him how this whole messed up system works 🙂
That’s so cool he was interested though! I don’t think I was that aware at 10.
Ahhhh I’m so glad you ate real ice cream!!! We need to get together soon now that you can eat hooligan stuff again. Yummy!!!! So glad you are enjoying your new found freedom. I can’t wait to see what creations you come up with! Hoping to see you at some point this weekend.. I’ve got a busy one but I’ll email you and call/text if/when I’ve got some free time because I’d love to see the three of you!
Haha – hooligan stuff.
Hope to see you too!!! We’ll be all over town, so just let me know.
Just like when I scroll through you IG pictures, I’m drooling- lots of yums!
Awwww… that’s huge compliment. I love food. 🙂
I LOVE that your list has a “yums” section, and that it includes wine 😉
so nice to eat um, ‘normally’ I bet – enjoy!!
Wine more than once! Haha.
Yay! It must feel so good to eat with FREEDOM now! 🙂 Live it up! And I love how you have “real” bread on your grocery list. And full-fat ice cream. YES.
It was a “When Harry Met Sally” moment.
It’s funny, but I was totally expecting to see a protein count at the end of this post. Even I got used to seeing it there 🙂
Great day of eats! So happy for you that (at least for a few days) you get to enjoy some more indulgent things 🙂
That is too funny! I actually went to write it and realized I didn’t have it! 🙂
What a fantastic array of eats. It must feel so liberating to have a day off where you can eat exactly what you fancy eating regardless of its content 🙂
Hope you’re having a fantastic weekend Laura! xx
Liberating is the perfect word. Hope you had a great weekend! 🙂
