Pancakes are never a bad idea.
Especially when you have a super-ripe banana.
My bananas have two speeds: too green or too brown. How do I miss that window of a perfectly yellow banana? I guess I can’t complain if it results in pancakes!

There’s so much to do in San Diego – it’s overwhelming.
I know… tough problems.
The food here is unreal and we’ve been steadily working our way through my (ever growing) “restaurants to try” list. However, there’s a ton of other things to do that Vegas and I have been neglecting. This weekend we decided it would be playtime! I think both of our stomachs breathed a sigh of relief.
Friday I finally manned up for something I’ve wanted to do since joining the gym in San Diego – I took my first Spin class in years. It wasn’t half bad! That room was like a sauna though. I think I lost 5 lbs in water weight alone!

I’m not an exhibitionist.
But I’ll go to the exhibition.
Sunday was a gorgeous day in San Diego. It was 78 degrees, nice breeze, and not a cloud in the sky. You know, typical. I did what all Southern Californians do on a day like that and went to the beach. What wasn’t SO typical was that the beach I went to was a nude beach.
Black’s Beach is actually one of the best beaches I’ve been to so far. There are volleyball nets, horseshoe, and a nice 2 mile stretch to walk. It’s not crowded (Americans are generally scared of nudity) and it’s right below a hang gliding take off, so you can lay there and watch the pretty parachutes. My main motivation for going to Black’s was the hike down. It’s really short, but it’s a fun, steep trek down a cliff to get to the water.

It’s been one of those weeks.
I’m not really sure what day it is…
I started the week in San Diego, now I’m in Vegas, and I’m driving back to San Diego tonight. What’s more confusing is that this weekend in San Diego it POURED down rain. I thought it wasn’t supposed to rain in paradise?! (Actually this is a good thing since California is having a drought.)
It was also Pride weekend, so I watched the wet hot mess from a bar.

I should probably stop celebrating my birthday now.
But at 32 I’m just not that mature yet.
Vegas had an amazing surprise planned for me on my birthday… but she didn’t wait until the day of to treat me! And – because I don’t think you should stop being treated either – I have a delicious (healthy-ish!) cheesecake dessert giveaway for you at the end of this post.
So. To begin the birthday celebration we first went to a fabulous dinner on my birthday-eve. The Patio on Goldfinch has been on my list to try for a long time. Vegas picked me up in my freshly washed car (another treat!) and we had a lovely evening out. How fabulous does this look?!

My mom and baby sister are here.
Watch out San Diego!
I haven’t seen my family since leaving Atlanta in February. I’ve been looking forward to having my mom and one of my sisters here for weeks! Naturally, the first thing I did way try to kill them with an 8 mile hike in 90 degree temps.

This is what happens when you can’t sleep on a plane.
Sadly, no mile high club. Vegas is so conservative…
Today we’re in Greece, but as I write this I’m on the first leg of our trip. We caught the first flight out to JFK (read: way too early). We didn’t really go to sleep and I am finding it impossible to sleep on the plane… so please excuse any typos, bad jokes, and general rambling. Basically proceed as usual.
Before we left I had the house cleaned and thought it the perfect time to take pictures of our new digs in San Diego. We lucked out with the space – there’s a lot of it. That’s hard to come by in our neighborhood! We live in a flat that’s part of a 4-unit building. Our land lady goddess lives above us, and two other couples are below us. It’s like a little Melrose Place (for those of you old enough to remember that show).
The first tour stop is the living room, our long hallway, and the bird room.

Have you ever tried to explain a sport to someone?
When you say it out loud, it sounds so ridiculous.
Like baseball. You hit a ball with a stick and run around a diamond. If you can make it to one of the white squares before they can throw the ball at you, you’re safe.
There there’s the matter of explaining foul balls (that’s what she said), strikes, walks, home runs, stealing… it all happened this weekend when Vegas and I took Lucie to the Padres game.
(For those who don’t know already, Lucie is my friend from Switzerland. She writes a blog and she’s awesome. I visited/met her last year in Switzerland.)
