It’s raining in San Diego. I mean POURING.
Which must mean the end is near.
Oh, and speaking of water… I’m doing a water-only week.
If water tasted like wine, my life would be SO much easier. Truth be told, I feel SO much better when I get all of my water in. I need to go back to my 5 Benefits of Drinking Water post and read it every day.
Speaking of… did you guys check out my cocktail recipe on Monday? That’s right, I posted about drinking on a Monday. Why not? It’s a lower-alcohol option, plus it has detoxifying pomegranate juice in it. You can detox while you retox!
Funny story. I featured this drink in my newsletter that went out yesterday – even made the subject line as a teaser. Then I forgot to link to the recipe. #fail
What is easier is getting to the gym when I have a workout partner – Vegas came! Since we got back from our snowboarding trip, I’ve found it hard to get motivated to do a “traditional” workout. I did go to a roller derby practice, which was amazing cardio? Anyone remember when I used to play in ATL? I’m hoping for a comeback after my ACL is back to 100%.
In the meantime, I’ll do the endurance work and keep up my weight workouts (and other cardio… sigh). This was a really good back and tricep workout, complete with a video by Vegas:

Did you notice my shirt says Tavern on the back? The front says “Whiskey made me do it.” Hahaha!
Enough rambling… on to my #WIAW! Be sure to link up to Jenn’s WIAW baby at the bottom!
Breakfast:
Vegas brought me half a cup of coffee to bed, of which I drank half. I don’t know what’s wrong with me… I just can’t get into the stuff. I do love the gesture of her bringing it up to me every day though! It’s a sweet ritual, and I have something to warm my hands as I check email and lay out my day.
Then, I drug myself downstairs to make our morning cocktails and start breakfast. We’ve had the same thing 3 days in a row: eggs (whites for me), bacon, blueberries, and toast with a little cream cheese. It’s #strangebutgood… and it’s what happens when I’m craving both sweet and salty. (Translation: I’m PMSing.)
Oh! And that black salt is a charcoal salt blend that my mom gave us for Christmas. It’s is crack-like good!
Lunch:
I made us both a post-workout salad with leftover BBQ chicken. Vegas also has a side of leftover mac ‘n cheese. What will I do with her?!
Dinner:
This was a really tasty Hello Fresh meal: Steak with an adobo-onion sauce over a poblano, corn, and kabocha hash. I added the kabocha… it was supposed to be potato, but you know my thoughts on those. I have Vegas the potato and re-crisped my kabocha in the oven. 😉
It was really good though. I’ll definitely be recreating this one!
There was an unpictured square… okay, two squares… of chocolate after dinner.

The real ACL reconstruction test is coming up this weekend – my first softball tournament. Not going to lie – I’m scared!
Do you have any #strangebutgood breakfast combos?
Isn’t wine water a brilliant idea???
Patrick@looneyforfood.com says
I feel like most of my food is strange but good, especially my late night random snacks ( like last nights jello mixed with shredded lettuce🤔) I love the water only week! Sounds good. I got my grandparents a coupe hello fresh boxes over vacation and they loved them!
Laura says
Jello and shredded lettuce blows my mind. I eat some weird stuff, but I dunno… 😉
Allie says
Oh if only water and wine were interchangeable I would never be dehydrated again! And my long runs would be a lot more interesting 🙂
Laura says
Same here. On both counts. LOL!
Patricia @Sweet and Strong says
I love roasted sweet potatoes in my yogurt with some almond butter for breakfast. My husband thinks that’s way to weird and won’t try it, but it’s delicious! And omg that salt sounds amazing!
Laura says
Sweet potatoes are awesome in yogurt! It’s not that different from pumpkin if you think about it.
Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says
We are so into Hello Fresh right now – all of their meals are so flavorful!
Laura says
They really do a great job! I love that the recipes are once you can re-create too. We get another shipment this weekend!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
I can very easily give up Wine or alcohol it’s the chocolate and sugar that I dream about
Laura says
Red wine and dark chocolate are my greatest weaknesses in life.
Emily Swanson says
Your title reminded me of when Jesus turned the water into wine. 🙂 And I LOVE triceps and back workouts. I did a chest and triceps workout earlier this week, and my chest is still sore. O_O
I’m so glad you’re getting rain there!
Laura says
I love that soreness… hurts so good!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
So I LITERALLY just saw a Napa valley wine water. It isn’t alcoholic (I don’t think) but is supposed to do similar wine-things? I don’t know. But YOU NEED TO LOOK INTO THIS
Good luck on the ACL test!
Laura says
WHAT???????? I must find this and drink it all.
Kate says
I’m doing water only right now too! Sparkling water in the evenings to feel fancy.
Laura says
I drink sparkling with lemon all day long. The bubbles make it so much easier to drink!
Jess @ Jessica Cording Nutrition says
LOVE kabocha. I had a networking coffee at Whole Foods today and if I hadn’t had to run around so much today, totally would have bought a kabocha to take home. The frozen one at Trader Joe’s is good but not the same.
Laura says
Frozen won’t crisp up like fresh will. Sooooo much easier though…
Cora says
Your breakfast is soooo what I’ve gotten into lately – I’m always wanting and pairing sweet and salty. Egg/ham breakfast sandwich with a side of blueberries was yesterday. Cheese scone with strawberries was the day before. All the sweet and savory.
Laura says
Cheese scones sound so good right now!!!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
How could you not eat the leftover mac and cheese?! Pfft.
Laura says
I’m very specific about the type of mac that I like. This was not that.
Susie @ Mile High Dreamers says
Hahaha I think you’re definitely on to something with wine water! It’s SO hard for me to get enough water in because I’m a teacher, and I basically get 2 bathroom breaks throughout the entire day. I honestly feel such a difference when we have off days and I’m able to drink as much water as I want!
And you HAVE to eat the leftover mac and cheese!

Laura says
That would be really hard! I do that on a plane – I don’t want to drink too much water and have to use the plane bathroom!
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
I definitely can feel a big difference if I don’t get enough water in. When I fly, I try to drink a ton of water before/during/after the flight, but I still somehow don’t feel hydrated. Elevation must really take it out of me! Hope that you’re enjoying your water-only week! 🙂
Laura says
I was CHUGGING water on the plane Monday. It hit me all at once it seemed!
(P.S. Water-only lasted 3 days. LOL!)
Mary says
Wow, it’s raining in San Diego, I love the rain, it’s sexy and romantic, cleansing, I also love creating art when it’s raining. Since I got back from Africa it’s been hard for me to get in the gym, I’ve been making it but it’s freakin hard. I wish I had a workout partner, I know that would keep me on track. I have to try this charcoal salt, it looks tasty. I haven’t tried Hello Fresh yet, I really want to.
Laura says
I agree with you on the rain! Same goes for thunderstorms. I used to love sitting on my balcony watching them.
If you lived closer, I’d totally workout with you! And I’d share my black salt. 🙂
