There are a few things I must* confess.
*Not really… I just like to overshare.
When it comes to fitness – or any aspect of life – we all have little quirks. I’ve seen you Ms. I-Drink-Starbucks-on-the-Stationary-Bike. Or Mr. My-Squat-is-Merely-a-Slight-Knee-Bend. As I found myself labeling everyone in the gym Sunday, I realized I needed to call myself out too.
Today’s Work It Out is all about confessions.
I confess…
1. I check my Instagram feed in between sets. While doing butt kicks or high knees.
2. On occasion I use “I’m going right to the grocery store after this workout” as an excuse to drive to the gym. My gym is 3 blocks from my house.
3. At the grocery store post-workout, I purchase men’s body soap. I use men’s deodorant too.
4. My headphones aren’t always playing music. I use them as an excuse to ignore people act like I don’t hear anyone around me.
5. I store my phone/music source in my bra while I lift. There’s nowhere else to put it! It not like my boobs take up that much space anyway.
6. My resting heart rate is 47. Because it’s SO hard for me to keep my heart rate up while lifting I go against my trainer’s instructions and have “active” rest between sets. The muscle dudes in the weight room stare as I bounce around doing tuck jumps, jumping jacks, high knees, etc.
7. When – after jogging to the gym – I get stranded by a torrential downpour, I have full-blown photo shoots in the ladies locker room.
8. When Kristen posted her freshly-washed sports bra pads, I realized I never wash mine. I wash the bras (after several uses), but never the pads. Whoops.
9. You probably figured this out from the previous confession, but I wear padded sports bras. They are by Handful and I love them. They did not send me any free stuff to say that.
This is really leading up to one big confession…
10. I’m getting a boob job breast augmentation on Thursday. There will be an awesome series of guest posts, as I won’t be able to lift my arms easily for a bit. The surgery itself doesn’t scare me. What does scare me is the fact that I won’t be able to exercise at all for 3 weeks. Not even a walk. Even more terrifying is that fact that I won’t be able to do arms for a few months.
Why would I put myself through this? I want boobs. It’s not about the figure competitions (though many competitors have them). I am totally flat chested, and have been my whole life. I’ve wanted to get my boobs done since I was 20, but waited (thank god – 20 would have been far too young). This year I turn 30, and I will have boobs. It’s my birthday present to myself. I’m sick of nothing fitting me right and of not being able to find a bra anywhere that fits… and then being frustrated that I even have to wear one because I really don’t need it (bonus confession: I’ve gone running bra-less).
So there you have it. This was the big reveal I referred to in yesterday’s post. It may seem weird for me to be blogging about it, but I’m keeping it real with my fake boobs. And when I suddenly stop working out for weeks you would have known something was up. 😉
No, I won’t look like a porn star. I want them to be on the small side.
***
This may be the most nervous I’ve ever been to post something. I know some people have strong opinions on plastic surgery… but know that this is something I’ve wanted for years and I’m doing it for ME. I’m happy to answer questions. Ask away in the comments and I’ll answer in tomorrow’s post!
Would you ever consider plastic surgery?
What are your gym confessions?
Lisa says
Haha love your quirks, they are awesome and I totally do some of the same. Oh I totally have my workout quirks too. For one, I hateeee listening to music with a passion, I’d rather just listen to nothing – I have no clue why, but apparently this is odd. That’s probably my major one, but I’m also weird in that my HR never gets as high as it does when I workout by myself. Even in spin classes, I actually get a better workout when I do it alone rather than in a class. Odd.
Lisa says
ALSO – oops. Good luck on your surgery!!! I can relate to the exercise troubles since I just had and recovered from surgery. You can e-mail me if you’d like for any support if you need it 🙂
Laura says
Thank you Lisa!!! At least it will give me a chance to catch up on blog reading… LOL!
Christine @ Love, Life, Surf says
I love all of your confessions. I very often wear my headphones when I’m not actually listening to something – both at the gym and when I used to work in an office. haha. And um, I’m constantly checking my Instagram feed. So funny timing with your post because I was thinking about this this past weekend. I never would have thought that I would consider plastic surgery but I too am totally flat chested. It hasn’t always bothered me but has been bothering me more since after I had kids and breastfeeding basically did a number of whatever I did have. Anyhow, way TMI (sorry) but I totally get it. Good luck this week!!
Laura says
Hey, this post is ALL about TMI. 😉
Debbie @ Live from La Quinta says
Being small breasted myself, I too have considered breast augmentation. I chose not to, but I am glad that you have made the choice that is right for you. Good luck with the surgery and FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS for your recovery.
Laura says
Can you tell I’m not a natural rule-follower?! 😉
Running Hutch says
I really appreciate your transparency! I’m sure you haven’t made this decision lightly. I’m pretty flat chested myself and years ago I used to consider fake boobs and imagine how much more confident I’d be with a more feminine figure. I suppose I went the other way, though. Perhaps getting married to a man who LOVES my body the way it is helped. I’ve stopped wearing makeup and those extra padded bras and have come to celebrate my body the way it is, completely natural. And you know, there are pros….I can snatch without the barbell hitting my chest and I can run without “shake weights”, haha. I’m fine knowing I’ll never be able to hold up a strapless dress. We all have choices to make about our bodies. Some want more boobs, some want less! I hope you find this brings peace to your self image.
Laura says
Thank you!!! I didn’t even think about the whole boob-in-the-way while lifting… I wonder if they will really stick out that much?!
Running Hutch says
Haha, probably not. But I know a lot of women at my gym who are…generously endowed and this is a problem for sure.
Laura says
Gotcha… I’m planning to be small still. Hopefully they don’t mess up the CCs… ha!
Ari @ Ari's Menu says
Honestly, no one really has the right to judge what you do with your body. I have wanted a reduction since I was 15, so I can’t say I understand, but if in the long run this will make you happier and more confident then get your boobs woman!! Good luck! 🙂
Laura says
I have SO many friends who’ve gotten reductions! Never heard a single regret… and a few will be caring for me. Apparently it’s a similar immediate-recovery? Thank you!!
Ulli says
Just wanted to send you a quick thanks! I did the little incline treadmill walk that you posted at some point…..:) I wanted to do something, but I can’t run right now because my ellotibial band is aggravated and the elliptical aggravates it too, but walking doesn’t seem to. This was a really nice 30 minutes! And proud to report that I didn’t hold on to the rails! 🙂
Laura says
I’m so glad you liked the walk!!! Hope your band problem clears up soon. 🙂
STUFT Mama says
Oh friend- way to let it all hang out there! He he. If only cake went straight to our boobs….. You get your boobs you deserve. 🙂 You have the rest of your life to exercise. Enjoy the rest. Can’t wait for the updates. Will be thinking about you!
Laura says
What is kabocha went to your boobs?! LOL!
I’ll have to get your address and send you my Handfuls. I’ll even wash the pads first. 😉
Sue says
Wow, that’s a really *big* confession! (Sorry for the pun!)
I admire your courage and transparency! Your body, your choice. Way to go!
In the past few years I’ve lost a lot of weight, and sadly also my boobs. I’d love to get them back to their old size and shape, but I’m still undecided. Maybe I’ll get my eyes lasered instead, if I can find the courage and the money.
Laura says
Hee hee. Big. 😉
My eyes are next on the list!!! I hear it’s a pretty easy surgery.
Ulli says
A: YES to boobs. Awesome. I have them and I love them and while, due to weighloss and gain and all of that, they aren’t exactly where they should be when I take the support structure off, they are awesome. Great gift for your 30th birthday!
I am totally guilty of checking my instagram and not listening to music on my ipod as well… 🙂
Presley @ Run Pretty says
Girl, get you some boobs! haha Mine are deflated little balloons now. Thanks, breastfeeding. I’ll probably get those suckers put pack into place after my baby making days are done. Don’t let people’s opinions bother you. They don’t live in your body!
Laura says
Thanks, Presley! I’ve heard all about the breast feeding ramifications… oy! Will let you know if it’s worth it. 😉
Tara @ Sweat like a Pig says
Woohoo for boobs!! I’m glad you are honest about this. There is one UK blogger I follow who has obviously had a boob job but continues to deny it and actually has the balls to look down on people who have had plastic surgery! My boobs are a fairly decent size but I’ve always thought I’d get surgery one day – I’m sure they will disappear when I get lean and if I have kids, I will need some kind of lift haha
Laura says
How did she manages to stop workout out for so long withouht anyone noticing? Anyway… I don’t think it’s a shameful thing. I’m going to be proud of this b-day present! 😉
Tara @ Sweat like a Pig says
Ha, it’s a lifestyle blogger not a fitness blogger, and she got them done before she started her blog. I think you should be proud of them!
De @ Cooking for the Other Half says
You go, girl! Do what makes you happy — power to you.
I laughed while reading your confessions because I do a lot of the same: 1, 4, 7 especially. I also tend to give people nicknames at my gym.
About #5 – I feel compelled to tell you that I know a girl who always stored her phone in her bra and it stopped working recently (maybe from sweat?) Eep…
Good luck with your procedure!!
Laura says
Thank you, and thanks for the warning on #5… maybe when I have boobs boob sweat will need to be a concern! Didn’t think of that…
Linz @ Itz Linz says
first of all: you are HILARIOUS!!!!!! second of all: i think NOTHING is wrong with plastic surgery. if it makes YOU happy, that’s what’s important. best of luck and can’t wait to check em out! in a totally not creepy way…. 😉 😉
Laura says
It’s cool… I already thought you were creepy. 😉 LOL!
Lee says
If it makes you happy, go for it! Life is too short not to be happy. I store my phone and stuff in my bra sometimes to. It’s a good pocket.
My boobs are two different sizes. That’s my confession.
Laura says
Mine are too! They are putting 25 ccs more in the right. Maybe because I’m left handed?
Court Star @ StarSystemz says
Yay for boobies (I have them + they changed my life) The surgery is not hard at all just plan to have someone care for you three days after (literally wipe your booty for you) but after that you will be fine! Sending you lots of LOVE + comfort during your surgery! Download lots of books + movies so you keep busy, the time will go by much quicker! Love + Shine CourtStar
Laura says
Literally wipe my butt?! My mom is going to love this… oy!
Thank you so, so much. AND you reminded me to chage my Nook and iPad. I owe you my sanity. 🙂
Kat says
I call dibs on clothes shopping with you!
Calee says
#3 I used to wear men’s deodorant before they started making the formula I like in a feminine flavor. I also refer to deodorant as “BO juice” (and contact solution as “contact juice”).
#4 and also to see if anybody says anything about me because I assume people are always judging me the way I do to them (they aren’t. We’re mean).
#5 obviously.
#6 mines like 55. It used to be lower when I was a lot lighter and when I wasn’t so damn anxious all the time. Woo anxiety.
Good luck Thursday! I know we already talked about this. Mine used to be super tiny, even when I was heavier than now, but they grew in a bit this time when i gained weight (after I finally decided that boobs were a hassle anyway). I’m glad you made this decision!!
Laura says
So which deodorant do you use now??? I want to try!
I bet tomorrow my HR will be 90…
Maureen says
I sometimes use my husband’s soap – it just smells better & I feel comforted in some way.
I also use a razor meant for men. Those lady razors are WHACK.
Good for you and your “girls.” There is no shame in getting a boob job….you work hard & deserve to be happy!
Laura says
I use a men’s razor too! They are so much better – I never cut myself.
Thanks Mo!!!
Rhonda says
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. The only problem I see with this plan is that once your bra is full of boobs you’ll have to find somewhere else to put your music. 🙂 But you’re a smart girl, you’ll figure it out.
Laura says
Haha! So true…
lindsay says
what about the women who cake their face in makeup and then plan to “sweat?” LOL!
YAY BOOBS!
Laura says
Or what about when they do sweat and wipe a streak thru their face? Hahaha!
Balls! Boobs! Yay!
Grubarazzi says
That’s pretty damn exciting. And the fact that many of our gym confessions are exactly the same (besides that jumping around in between sets), solidifies that you are my sister from another mister. lol. Good luck with your new chesticles. That’s really fucking exciting. Excuse the language.
Laura says
LMAO! Chesticles. Word of the week, my mister-sister. 😉
RavieNomNoms says
I am SO the opposite! This is so funny to me. I have boobs, and I HATE them!! I wear a 32D (almost 32DD, no padded bras for me!) and I cannot find anything to wear because the size of my waist and boobs are so vastly different haha. If I could I would donate my own breasts to you. Although, I do know a lot of women who gain a lot of confidence in either getting breasts, or getting them sized down so they are comfortable. Whatever size you are going to, I hope it goes well for you and it ends up being everything you dreamed of…OH and take after pics so we can see 🙂
Also, I totally use the earphones in the ears as well as an excuse to totally ignore people at the gym haha
Laura says
32D?! I cannot feel bad for you. 😛
There will be plenty of pics. With appropriate coverage, of couse. Haha!
GiGi Eats Celebrities says
Gym confession #1 – I HATEEEEEEEE when other people come in the gym when I am working out (my apartment gym is rather small so I can hear and see what everyone is doing, and it’s distracting)…
Gym confession #2 – I SWEAT A LOT and I ACTUALLY WORK OUT – GASP! LOL!!!!
(PS: I am totally getting more and more obsessed with instagram – GAHHH!)
Laura says
Me too!!! Don’t they know it’s MY weight room?!
Olivia @ Liv Lives Life says
I’ve definitely done the fake music thing many times, whether or not I’m in the gym. Sometimes I’ll just do it when I’m walking around campus or something. 😉
I hope everything goes well for you! I’m the exact opposite and hate having boobs, but that said, I can empathize about your wanting to change it up. Good luck with the surgery and the whole exercise debacle! Maybe it will be nice to have a few weeks off…?
Laura says
Smart!!! I’m going to start wearing earbuds all the time. 🙂
Thank you so much!
Madeline @ Food Fitness and Family says
Good for you! If you want boobs by golly you should have them 🙂 Will be praying for an easy and quick recovery for you!
Laura says
Thank you, friend! It is so appreciated. 🙂
Jody - Fit at 55 says
Nosy ole me already knew about the boob job & I so get it having not much & now drooping with age! I say if it makes you feel good – more power to you!!! I honestly would get a ton of face work done right now if I had the money.. not sure about boobs at this late in life but maybe just lift them..BUT the no working out – that stopped me so.. maybe not! 😉 I am not young like you so… not my fist priority anymore. I need to try those handful bras though!!!
Now you have me wanting men’s deodorant over my Clinical Secret!
I definitely keep myself plugged in so nobody talks to me!!! 🙂
I used to look at Instagram like you quick but it was slowing me down so now I don’t till the end… unless I am so pooped I need an excuse for a break! 🙂 I am a circuit trainer with little to no rest as I move about.
I so love the squeaky toy cartoon!!! 🙂
OK – YOUR BACK SHOT IS AMAZING!!! So much progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Laura says
Jody, you know this but your support and encouragement means the world to me. Thank YOU!!! And thank you for the back compliment!!! Now I’m just scared all the time off will hurt progress. 🙁
Clinical Secret wasn’t doing it for me – men’s deoderant is also a staple.
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Tony thinks I did the good ol bait and switch on him. I had HUGE boobs when we met. Mine were so big that the boys in daycare (yeah, daycare) used to call me Dolly Parton. I was super developed super early. After tumors (not in the breasts), illnesses, huge weight loss and breastfeeding two babies…um, I have no boobs. Sure, I wish they were a little bigger now, but eh, I’m too cheap to do anything about it. I think you should do whatever makes you happy when it comes to plastic surgery. If you need anything, let me know! I’m happy to come help you out. Yay! BOOBS!!!
PS…I too put my phone in my sports bra when lifting. Seriously, there’s plenty of room in there!
Laura says
Poor Tony… LOL! Actually, I can’t imagine you with big boobs. Pictures!!! 😉
Thank you so much!!! Let’s finally do dinner in all my down time!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I used to use Men’s deodorant too but stopped because I got all embarrassed at the thoughts of other people knowing I used it…to know I’m not alone means I might start again. Besides, it smells better. 🙂
Okay and seriously I LOVE the headphone comment, I do it too! Except then there’s the cute boy at the gym so then I try to leave my headphones OUT so he feels like he can approach me but after the creeper came up and talked to me the other day, the headphones went back in. ha!
Laura says
Really? I use men’s deoderant but I don’t think anyone notices… Whatever. It smells good! 😉
Strategic headphone-wearing – love it!
Claire says
CONGRATS!!! on the surgery. I am 20 and actually had the same surgery a year ago when I was 19, and I personally am glad I didn’t wait any longer. I was tired of NEVER feeling like a girl. Tired of dreading getting intimate because of my literal complete lack of breast tissue. I wanted to feel feminine, I wanted to stop feeling self-conscious, I wanted to have self-esteem. I know those things shouldn’t depend on the size of your lady lumps, but for me they are one and the same. I always loved myself regardless, but since having the surgery I have never felt happier. I have never been so confident in who I am and how I look. I experience far less stress and negative thoughts, I never feel down about how I look and I never care what other people think of me. And, I finally feel attractive, I finally feel feminine, and I finally feel confident in myself and my decisions. I know 19 is really young for that kind of procedure, but I have a very understanding father who’s philosphy is this:
Laura says
Good for you! I’m glad you were able to get it done, and had such positive results. It’s encouraging. 🙂
Amber says
Go for it….you will be so glad you got them. I did last year at age 42 and I too wanted clothes to fit better.
Laura says
That makes me feel better. I can’t wait to buy clothes and not need them altered!
Claire says
If there is something you can do to make yourself a happier person, you should absolutely do it.
p.s. Haters gon’ hate. Ignore it. You live your life for YOURSELF, not for anyone else.
Laura says
Agreed!!!
Claire says
(Also I would like to just mention that the size I got is not by ANY means large…I simply look NORMAL. Nobody can tell they’re fake. I literally didn’t even have enough existing tissue to work with to make them huge, and I didn’t even go with the biggest size I could have fit in me. Just saying, because people always assume you end up with nasty watermelon-sized knockers that are not subtly shaped either).
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
I’m with you on #6 the second I stop moving my HR plummets so I always move around too. I always just wore the arm band thing for my iPod. Always felt like the Hulk though when doing curls and it’d pop the velcro off LOL. I’m flat-chested too (hello 32 A). Once upon a time I thought I wanted at least a solid B (not too much to ask for right) but as a runner, I’m totally content now. Though, there would be times when it’d be fantastic if I actually filled out a top or dress properly. I say if this is what you want, why not go for it. You’re not doing it for someone else. i hope the procedure goes smoothly and recovery even better/faster!
Laura says
That’s why I don’t do the arm band on bicep day – but maybe I should. Hulk is a bad ass. 😉
Thank you!!
Layne says
LOL! It would be GREAT if cake went straight to my boobs! CONGRATS! What an excited decision! I an probably less than an A and my husband and I are currently budgeting for me to get them done, but waiting until after kids. Based on some of the comments above and from what others tell me I feel like I’ve made the right decision to wait for me.
What doctor are you using? Size? High, medium, or low profile? Under the muscle? So many questions sorry! But for someone who is getting it done to I just want to know and learn from others! Can’t wait to hear your experience and hope you post about it too!
Thanks!
Laura says
Good for you!! I’m glad I waited this long.
I’m going to Dr. Colgrove. 275 ccs (small), and going low profile because I have broad shoulders/chest. 🙂
Mallory says
So happy for the encouragement and yay’s. I love you and can’t wait to go bra shopping! 🙂
Laura says
I heart you. Mwah!
Allie says
I’ve kinda had plastic surgery done on my nose. I had to have it completely reconstructed after a car accident in 2009 and the doctor did a fabulous job LOL.
Anyways, way to go after what you want! And 3 weeks of no exercise is worth a lifetime of bigger boobs!
Laura says
I thought you had a rather nice-looking nose. 🙂
candice@hungrymotherrunner says
Laura I do the same things.. haha!
My gym is about 5 miles away.. so thats my excuse to drive.. haha!
I LOVE mens deodorant!
good luck with your boobies. I had mine done when I turned 21 and LOVE them. The first few days sucks butt. But you won’t regret it ever!
xoxo
Laura says
So good to know!!! Thank you. I’m excited and nervous… can’t sleep!
Michelle @ Eat Move Balance says
I was just thinking about you and this decision the other day…wondering when….and the time is here! Good for you, Laura! I bet you’ll find the recovery process to go by more quickly than you imagine. In the grand scheme of things, a few weeks and months will fly by? More time for strange but good combos, right?!? I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on how it feels, what you experience, etc. in the coming months. (I hope that’s not too wierd) 🙂 Also, I totally do the headphone move too.
Laura says
Thanks Michelle! You are right – it’s not a lot of time in the big picture. That helps to think about. 🙂
Katie @ KatieEnPursuit says
Love all of these confessions & can relate to so many of them! I totally check social media in between sets. I also secretly take photos of terrible things I see at the gym, clothes, hair, form, etc. I’ll probably go to hell for that! And I vote that plastic surgery is an individual choice..go with it if you want 🙂
Laura says
Ohhhh… secret pics. I love it!
Cori @ olivetorun says
I check instagram while planking- it’s one of the only things that keeps my mind occupied enough to hold it that long. Sad but true.
Also, if I have headphones in my ears chances are they are not for music but for ignoring people too!
Laura says
I do that too!!! And Twitter. Planking is much easier when you’re distracted.
Shari says
I drive to my gym too… I have considered walking but I’m still a beginner and sometimes I walk out of the gym a little wobbly legged and don’t want to have to think about walking home. If I cut my workout time to include the walking I would only be there a few minutes. Once I start using bigger weights though… maybe. And congrats on getting new tatas 🙂
Laura says
I get that – I have walked home after leg day before kicking myself for not driving. 🙂
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles says
Number 5 – absolutely! Just the most convenient place 😉
And I think it’s awesome that you’re talking about your upcoming augmentation…It’s incredibly off-putting when people are suddenly 2 cup size bigger out of nowhere and deny it. If it’s going to make you happier, than go for it – who cares if anyone has anything negative to say about it.
Angela says
I love this confession blog more than I can say! Question: do men’s products work better or do you just prefer them? Just curious.
And yay for boobs! I know when I’m done losing the weight that mine will be nonexistant and I’m already starting to think about whether I would want to get a pair or not. It is all about making yourself feel feminine, beautiful, confident! Sure, you can feel that way as you are but if you think you’ll feel even better post-surgery, then go for it! To each their own, right? Good luck! Wishing you a quick and healthy recovery!
~Ang
Laura says
I think they work better – I also use men’s deoderant and razors. 🙂
Thanks Ang!
Maren says
Good for you girl! I am totally getting fake ones after I have kids haha (if I can have them of course). Mine aren’t huge, but they are not perky at all and I can see them getting much worse after children. Anyway, you gotta do what’s best for you and what YOU want to do. It’s your money and your body, do whatever you want! But man, no lifting for that long is going to be more painful than the surgery! 😉 Good luck on Thursday and we will all be thinking of you!! (I’m so jealous!!)
Laura says
I think the no lifting will be the hardest part too!!! I’m try to gear up some patience…
Thank you!!! 🙂
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
TEAM LAURA and doing what you want for YOU! I am proud of you. You’re going to look great! (You already do look great but wooohooo boobies!) I support you 100%! And I’ll come lift things for you if you need any help! 😀 😀
Laura says
BALLS!!! xoxo
Elle says
Love that you are wearing a HANDFUL but did you see on their FB page that they are now urging us NOT to put cell phones in our bras? Apparently there is concern about breast cancer.
Laura says
They say the same thing about cell phones… and food… and water… I dunno. Just can’t get behind all the warnings. They are on everything!
Gabrielle says
Good for you!! I’m so happy you shared this with your readers 🙂 I’ll be thinking about you on Thursday, everything will be fine and so will be the recovery!! 🙂 Enjoy your new boobs 😛
Laura says
Thank you, Gabrielle!
chelsea says
YEY for fake boobies!!!!!!!!!!! I cant wait for September when I get mine…then we will be bosom buddies…:) I miss you!!! Cant wait to see pics 🙂 That sounded wrong…but right…
Laura says
Yay!!! I’ll bring you healing food. 🙂
Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says
I am really proud of you for putting this out there and being honest (especially on a topic that some people might judge). I totally support your decision and think that it’s completely personal and up to you. It’s something I’ve definitely thought of, myself. I really like the size of my boobs, but after losing a bunch of weight years ago, they are not lively and perky and fun (so a lift or something like that would be nice). Heck, if you have the ability and option to change something in your appearance that will make you more confident and happy with your body- then go for it! I can’t wait for the big reveal! 🙂
Also- I definitely put my iPhone in my bra when working out. It gets really sweaty and nasty too. And my resting HR is right about the same as yours- but it goes up really easily (especially here in high altitude!).
Good luck with the boobies, my love!!
Laura says
Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’ve always thought you had very nice boobs. LOL!
Thanks, Lauren!! xoxo
keira says
Haha I use mens soap too! Old spice Fiji, I want to smell like the man your man could smell like on an island. Also completely guilty of the phone in the bra thing, but now I have to awkwardly stick it in my pants because it got too humid or something in my bra and stopped working…whoops O:
Laura says
“I want to smell like the man your man could smell like on an island” <--- LMAO! I love it. 🙂
Melissa @ Treats With a Twist says
I always stare at the elderly man who chugs a Diet Dr. Pepper during the first two songs in spin class. Every class.
And YAYYYYY!!!! I don’t normally cheer for boobs (in fact, I spent most of my youth asking my mom if I could schedule a reduction), but the fact that you’re making a decision 100% for you, I’m so proud of you and am behind you on this one! I totally would have plastic surgery down the road. I’ve made it no secret to my fiance that as soon as we have kids, I’m going to need a boob lift (I’ve always had boobs too big for my DD bra, and now that I’ve lost 45 pounds, they’re saggy DDs…but still quite large) and I want them sized proportionate to my body (dear Lord, can’t a girl get a C??). Also, if I ever have to go through a C-section, I want a tummy tuck right then and there. Haha.
Laura says
Does the really do that?! Wft?! I’d take a pic. 😉
I would 100% have a tummy tuck with a C-section. Why not?! They’re already down there…
Shelly says
I love how honest you are! I feel the same way as you. I want a boob job so bad! I have struggled with the concept for years. I want one, but currently am scared, and also can’t afford one. But I know for my own confidence and sanity, it would make me feel so much better about life. So it was great to read your feelings about it. The blog world is so small sometimes, in the fact that we all share similar feelings. And I agree … it would be hard to not work out for that long. But it will be worth it in the long run. You go girl!
Laura says
Thanks, Shelly! I went back and forth with the same struggles, but I figure if 10 years later I still want it… why not? 🙂
Kim says
Good for you – I think that is a great birthday present to yourself!!!
Kim @ Wonderings says
I have headphones in right now with no music. Sometimes my co-workers just don’t get that work is for work… and congrats on the boob job! Wish I could give away some of mine! Enjoy the rest days.
Laura says
That is brilliant – I will be bring head phones to work from now on!
Thanks!!
Lindsay says
I’m also a member of the no-chest club, but I embrace it and actually love it. It makes finding clothes sucky, but it makes running easier than a high school boy doing jumping jacks. Boo yahhh. 🙂 I totally respect your decision, though. It’s all about what makes you feel comfortable and your best.
Laura says
I *hope* I’m staying small enough to not notice a huge differnece in the gym/running. Admittedly, I am a little nervous about it!
Allie says
Woah, surprise for sure, but hey, if you want ’em, it’s your body!
Hah, I’ve totally gone for bra-less jogs. And I used to ride horses bra-less. Activities for the extreme flat-chested only! And men’s soap just smells better. I accidentally bought men’s Dove, and then realized I’m really more than okay with smelling like a sexy dude all day.
Alayna @ Thyme Bombe says
Yay, boobies! Hope your recovery isn’t too bad and you can get back to your old (yet enhanced!) self pretty quickly.
Nicole @ FruitnFitness says
ha reading about your active rests is too funny! That sounds much less annoying than the people who rest on machines for way to long. Like you do not need to sit and read your magazine there.
Laura says
I know!!! There was a guy witting on the pulldown machine eating a banana once who refused to move. Ugh.
Amanda Fraijo-Tobin (@FraijoManda) says
*squeak squeak*
Well good for you! I love that you’re being rather open about it. It bothers me when people “disappear” then obviously come back and have something they didn’t leave with 😉
PS: I’d love me some tatas! Mine all vanished with my weight loss, boooo. Wishing you the best of luck!
Laura says
Thank you, Amanda!!! I’ll let you know if it’s worth it. 🙂
Michelle says
Wow, you go girl! I have debated for so long getting them someday but going under the knife scares me too much. I’m not thrilled that the little B’s I DID have are now A’s but…who knows, I’m only 34, I suppose I can always get boobs some day down the line if I have the means and I get over the fear.
I haven’t tried the Handful bras but I did purchase the “Balance Collection” sports bra’s that TJ Maxx/Marshall’s sells and they are cheap and work well too for those who are looking for a little boost.
I’m so excited to hear how it goes…Kudos to you for doing what you want.
Laura says
I’m definitely fearful… but more from the recovery that the surgery itself.
The Handfuls are awesome!!! And they often have sales. Totally worth it. 🙂
dixya | food, pleasure, and health says
I use mens body wash every once in a while – i like how fresh it smells. and yay for boobs. I am so happy that you waited and finally getting yourself a present you have always wanted. Sending you lots of good thoughts and quick recovery. Take care Laura <3
Laura says
Thank you! xoxo

so jealous!! getting boobs has been something we have wanted for years, we talk about it all the time with our sisters and best friends. we are small chested too and love those padded bras – handfuls are the best 🙂 maybe one day we will get one – just need to save up the money 😉
good luck with the surgery – thinking of you!!! and again jealous 😉
HUGS
Laura says
I didn’t realilze that! I’ll give you the full report. 🙂 Thank you!!!
purelytwins says
Yes let us know how it goes. Maybe it will be our birthday present too in a few years 😉

I am so glad you posted about this! I love your honesty. I have nothing against plastic surgery. You deserve it! I am very flat so I understand completely. I would definitely be worried about not moving or working out for that long. But it will be worth it!
Laura says
Thank you so much for the support! 🙂
Kyra S says
I’m so glad you confessed this! Now I know I’m not the only fitness freak with fake boobs! I was in the same place you are, I got my done just about 9-10months ago! Everyone is different but my recovery time was short about 2 weeks, I think I was able to jog(with an extremely restrictive sports bra) after a month. It was about a month that I was able to start lifting light weights again too! My body recovered pretty quick, my arms and chest did not recover as quick. I still today do not push my chest muscle too far I try to be very careful with it. That being said, I love mine and I don’t regret doing It at all! I’m pretty much 100% back to normal. Good luck though! Enjoy the down time while it lasts 🙂 I hope you like them!
Laura says
you ar esomnot alone! I feel like everyone has fake boobs. just go to a competition and you’ll see. 🙂
Thanks for the info – I am terrified of the recovery and this makes me feel a little better knowing what to expect.
Kirsten says
Got them . Love them. Recovery was a breeze. Hope your surgery goes as smoothly as mine did. 🙂
Laura says
Thank you!!
Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie says
Good for you girl! You gotta do what you gotta do!
Brittany @ Delights and Delectables says
Go girl!! I’m glad you are doing this for yourself! Don’t worry about those 3 weeks. It will so be worth it. Plus, you will bounce right back. My sister in law had it done, and she never regretted it!
Laura says
Thank you, Brittany!!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut says
Okay props to you for posting this!! Even though they are fake…you aren’t trying to hide it haha. These are the types of things that make me respect you as a blogger and a person! <3
I've always wanted bigger boobs and I've decided that if I want to after I have kids, I will go for it. I just want to still be able to run after….that's the one good thing about the small ones! 😉
Good luck!!
Laura says
Amanda, that is the biggest compliment. Thank you!!!
I went for a “last run” yesterday… but I think it will be fine after I heal. I’m not trying to be huge. 😉
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Good luck with your surgery and recovery! I hope that all goes well :).
Lawrence says
Congrats girl! …but sorry about the down time. Its all good, you’ll bounce back with no problems.
Gonna miss your posts 🙁
Gym Confession: I sometimes like to lift beside people doing the same exercise they are, but always doing more weight than they are.
Laura says
Thank you! I have some great guest posts lined up… and you know I can never resist commentary. 😉
I do that SAME thing! Especially if it’s a dude.
Amy says
I have had my “girls” for 5 years now and have loved them every minute! I have them subpectoral and I was back to my fitness routine within 2 weeks. (Light on the upper body) Do exactly what the MD says and you will love them! So happy for you! It will be weird at first, like they are in the way but soon you will forget and feel like they have always been there.
Laura says
Mine are sub-pec too. This makes me feel so much better – thank you for sharing your experience! 🙂
Claire says
Great post. Good luck this week. I know it will be hard but take the time you need to heal and recover. It will all be worth it. :). As Stuftmama said, you have the rest of your life to workout.
Laura says
Thank you!!! I’m trying to keep it in perspective. 🙂
Amelia says
Love your “confessions”. I have many of the same….especially the resting HR at 47. People must think I’m nuts for bouncing around like a fool too (especially my husband. ha!) Congrats on getting a boob job! I’m ALL for it and originally planned on getting one this coming Thanksgiving but due to some other factors going on, it may have to hold off a bit longer. NBD though, since I will get one eventually. 🙂
It is going to be so tough to take a break from working out for 3 weeks, but think how much you will kick ass and how incredible you will look going back to working out. You can walk back in the gym and be like, “Oh yeah boys, check me out. 😉 “
Laura says
Thanksgiving would be good because you have alll that family there to wait on you. LOL! 🙂 Let me know what you decide, and if you have questions.
Thank you!!!
Mary Legare Whaley says
I love this. #3 I use men’s razors. They are far superior to women’s razors. And they aren’t pink. #4 I frequently leave the gym wearing my headphones (iPhone turned off) so I don’t have to talk to the desk guy who keeps trying to set me up with his awkward son. Good for you, going all out for some boobs! Don’t be scared, it will be worth it if you really want it! I’ve considered getting a little nose job. But the cost isn’t worth it for me. It would be so subtle, I doubt anyone would notice but me.
Laura says
I use men’s razors too! All those blades… I never cut myself anymore! And yes – NO pink. 🙂
Sarah @ Feeeding the Brain and Body says
I love how open you are. Regular confession posts always make me motivated to be more open but this confession post is something else. I respect you for being so open about your decision!
Laura says
Thank you, Sarah! My favorite bloggers are super-open, so I try to copy them. In my own way. LOL!
caren says
Good luck with the new boobs! Hope you have a smooth installation and a fast recovery. I don’t fake ones, but I don’t see any issue with it. Lots of competitors have them, and when you get down to such low body weight, I do think it gives you a better balanced look on stage.
That said, some women do go overboard and they look like their wearing water ballons, but to each her own.
Laura says
Thank you so much! No water balloons here. 🙂
Heather @ girlyeverafter says
I’m so excited for you!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m all about doing what makes you feel good about your body. My forehead is frozen in time thanks to Botox so I’m headed down the road to boobs in the next few years. Let me know and I’ll bring lots of ice cream and movies while you recover!
Laura says
I need to talk to you about the Botox! Someone told me it also works for wrinkle prevention since you can’t make the expression to form the wrinkles?! This may need to happen.
And YES! I would love the company!!!
Laura says
Good luck! I had reconstructive surgery recently following breast cancer 4 years ago. Did get an augmentation as well since I didn’t have much anyway and the hormones/lack of were messing with the size. The surgeon won’t make you too large if they know you work out and have little body fat. It may take a little longer to do the procedure but don’t worry too much about not being able to do anything afterward. I did light cardio, lower body, etcc If you are used to exercising they may let you resume activiites early like I did. It will feel strange at first. If there was any pulling sensation we would modify the exercise (I have a trainer). Push ups, flys, and lat pulls feel strange for quite a while. The only thing that really bothered me was running or bouncing of any kind (which is off limits initially anway!) The action that bothered me the most post surgery was speed bumps and short stops in the car!. Love your strange but good and I am glaad to see I am not the only one with a very low resting heartrate!
Laura says
Laura… that is so much to go through. Kudos to you! Thanks for sharing your experience. It helps my nerves to know what I should expect!
Heidi says
I am so excited for you.. and a bit jealous. I’ve been an A cup my whole life and have desperately wanted to feel what every girl who actually goes through that part of puberty feels. Wishing you a very speedy recovery and I can’t wait to see the updates 🙂
Love the gym confessions:
#4 – Yep, I totally do this. Or to eavesdrop on other people’s convos, which is often far more entertaining. I did get a nice compliment yesterday on my Bose headphones (still love you for that). He said they were “tight.” Tight = good, right?
#8 – Do this too. I figure sweat is all natural stuff and I will let them air dry once, use it twice before washing. I feel like they’ll last longer!
Can I ask who your doctor is? I have heard good things about Dr. Gravier, but always like a good recommendation for the future!
Laura says
Ha – I think I totally missed puberty. I can still wear kid’s shoes!
I am using Dr. Colgrove. He has done a lot of competitiors at my gym. I’ve heard Gravier is good too though!
Thank you!!!
Lucie@FitSwissChick says
Loove all the confessions!! Haha, you bet I would drive with my dar to the gym (2 minutes from the office) if I had one. Instead, I need to take my bike and packing my gymbag, groceries and huge handbag on my bike. Dangerous. Epecially when it snows.
Oh girl, I would be more than happy to pass over some boobs!! I always suffered because I find mine too big. It’s the same story as always, but – I am so excited for you to get them!! I totally think plastic surgery is ok, why not?? If it makes us feel better, then yes!! I did a Lipo 2 years ago and never regret it. If you ever want to chat while in recovery, skype me on (lucieplus) – my job allows me that 🙂
Laura says
I can’t believe you do that in the snow!! I drive if ti’s below 50 degrees. LOL!
Thank you so much!!! 🙂
Carrie @ FamilyFitnessFood.com says
BTW, I check instagram and twitter between strength sets too.
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
Hooray for boobies. I’ve always had them so who am I to judge. Plus, there’s a chance I could one day get a little lift or not. The beauty is it is your body, and you can do what you will with it.
Good luck; I’ll be thinking of you and rooting for you on Thursday. Although, after this, you may need to wash your sports bras after every use…I usually have to peel mine off my chest. On that lovely imagery note….
Laura says
Thank you for the enouragement and the imagery… this is going to be interesting…
Fran@BCDC says
Having survived to my advanced age being pretty flat chested, I understand the desire to be more curvy. It is such a personal decision and I admire you for being so honest with us, Laura. I wouldn’t do it, Just because I could never have afforded it, and now I don’t really care! But I’ll be sending good thoughts to you on Thursday!
Laura says
Thanks Fran! And you are NOT an advanced age. 😛
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
Oh man- I take a day off blog reading and missed this– I love it! I wouldn’t mind a little augmentation myself… 🙂
Laura says
You never know what strange thing I’m going to come out with… LOL!
Kristina says
atta girl!
what I love most about this is that you have given it a great deal of thought, and are approaching it intelligently – if you still really want this after waiting a good 10 years, go for it! I am all about having confidence and feeling good about yourself – I know you are already confident (something I’ve always liked about you!), and really admire your approach to this.
I am excited for you, will miss your posts as you recover and wish you a very smooth procedure and healing – I know you’ll bounce back just fine! xo
Laura says
Thank you, Kristina! I have some good guest spots lined up while I’m gone… full of my commentary, of course. 😉
Rachel @ Eat Learn Discover says
I totally do that headphones thing too (back when I still had a gym membership…). But not only at the gym – I do that when I’m out working or studying if I don’t want to be bothered.
As to the surgery – I completely understand where you’re coming from! I have the opposite situation with the same consequences. Boobs too huge for American bras and any decent clothes. Its SO hard when nothing fits and you can’t find good bras. Try having to spend $60+ for one bra! I’m still considering reduction surgery, but I’m not at a time in my life when I can take the time off.
I’d say your doing this for all the right reasons. Either way, it’s your choice, so it isn’t anybody’s place to say “you’re wrong”. Although I’m super jealous that you could run braless. 😛
Natasha says
Hi Kristina!
Laura says
Exactly! I spent $80 on the only bra I can sort of wear now. And it STILL doesn’t fit right. No more!
Thank you!!
Natasha says
Well – I had augmentation years ago – and against advice I worked out a bit too soon…needless to say – I developed scar tissue around my implant – and your body may produce it regardless of massage, and not working out. It is what my body decided to do.
Soon I will be having my implants removed, the scar tissue cleaned up, and a lift performed – at the age of 44 – I look back and think I should have had a lift (I had decent sized breasts to begin with – they started to really sag as I lost body fat), and been more secure in my own self with my body. It is a very personal decision.
Please take care of yourself and we will hear from you soon!
Laura says
Oh no! I will work on patience… best luck to you!!!
Thank you!!!
Hannah says
So proud of you for choosing to post this. No matter what paths we all take in life, we should always high five, celebrate, and support each other for doing what makes our individual hearts soar. You know what you want, you know what you deserve, and you know who you are, and that is all that matters. Oh, except this also matters: *I* think you’re damn incredible, too. 😉
P.S. 4 and 5 always, except I store my iPod in my bra while walking around the city, not lifting, and when I AM listening to music, I will ALWAYS be singing out loud. For example: yesterday, in the middle of DC, wearing a light summer dress and dirty grey sneakers (fashion win!), iPod tucked in my bra, belting out Love Like Mine from Nashville: (“I’m gon’ stay up, drunk on wine, hurt like hell and ugly cryin’ black mascara tears!”). In other words, I’m clearly so fierce that I will smack down any negative comment you ay get (which, hopefully, will be none).
Stop talking Hannah. xoxo
Laura says
Thank you, Hannah!!! As alwyas, I love your way with words. I think YOU are incredible. Singing in the street is a *must.
(Don’t ever stop talking.)
JANETHA says
WOOHOO FOR BOOBIES!
Laura says
LMAO! Thanks. 🙂
Cassie @ RedLetterDaye says
Good luck with your surgery! I wish I could donate my boobs. I’ve never liked having them, and when I was super thin (i.e., ED days), I actually really liked not having them (Well, I was still a 32C). Now I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum where things dont’ fit because my boobs are too big and things dont’ fall right on me. At least the bf likes them….Plus my butt is teeny so I feel your pain on feeling out of proportion. I would so get butt implants, but since I’m too poor for that and scared of surgery, I’ll see where squats, deadlifts, and barbell hip thrusts get me. 😉
Laura says
I hear you CAN get butt implants… there’s a male body builder that got calf impants. Can you imagine the pain?!
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
I’m not even reading the comments because whatever anyone says, it doesn’t matter. [I mean, it matters what I say, so you best be reading this. :)]
As a member of the baby booby brigade, I can totally understand what you are doing, and I admire you for just telling it like it is. You are doing it because you want to, and there you go.
I will try to come visit and bring you Booby Butter.
Laura says
Obv it matters what you say. 🙂
Will you really VISIT??? I would love that. I’ll show you my boobs. Bwhahaha!

I am in love with the shape of your back!!! ♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
That back of yours is a secret and dirty motivation of mine EVERYTIME I do my high intensity work out w movestrongdestin. I want my back to look just like yours, and while I am far from it, I am definitely making progress!!
Congrats on your bday present! They will be fabulous on you! B-)
Laura says
You are the sweetest! I wish we were closer – I’d work you out while I’m sidelined! 🙂

I think you need to do what feels best to YOU!
I am small breasted as well and can’t live without my Handful pads. But at 46, having breastfed three children, I feel like mine have done their job and am happy to leave them alone! LOL!
Best wishes through your recovery; I’ve seen several friends through it and they were surprised by how long it took to get back to their regular exercise routine. Don’t rush it! xo
Laura says
Thanks Tamara! Cheers to all the boobs. 🙂
Cait's Plate says
Good for you! You’ve clearly thought it through and are making the best decision for YOU and that’s all that matters! 🙂

Thanks Cait! I’m sad to miss you this week. 🙁

I’m just glad you use any deodorant. Also, when you get back, you’re gonna do all that plyo stuff between sets of hack squats. 😉 Just let me know if you need anything.
Laura says
HA! No plyo on leg day. Hacks are too evil.
Katy says
There is nothing wrong with a BA!! Younworkmso hard at the gym and you can change al,out everything except our boobs, you owe it to yourself. Good luck!! You’ll be back at the gym in no time but seriously take it easyyy when you first return.

Thank Katy! Almost time… ahhhh!

Maria @ Pappa Don't Preach says
Can’t believe I missed this… but I’m SO thrilled for you and your surgery. I had mine done was I was only 20 years old and it made such a difference to me. Appearances have never meant much to me but this did. It made a world of difference in how I felt about myself and the way I carried myself. They’re a part of me now and I don’t regret a bit of it. Back then, I wasn’t as into fitness as I am now but I do remember getting antsy about going to the gym, even if it just meant walking on the treadmill. You’ll feel that much better when you’re able to get back in there. Good luck mama! You have the support of ALL of us! xo
Laura says
That’s so good to hear! I’m on day 3 and it’s slow going…
Sarah says
Congrats on the boobs! I had mine done 9 months ago (I’m 29 now) and could not be happier. I always had teeny tiny boobies and wanted to get implants, but never thought it was something I’d do. I found myself in a fantastic relationship with my fiance who accepted everything about me and just decided to do it for ME (he loves them of course!).
I was also nervous about the exercise part, but really 3 weeks goes by so fast. My recovery was super easy – lifting my arms over my head immediately and I was able to shower that evening – but you’ll feel really ready to take that time off. Once you can come back, cardio is your friend. I was a big runner and definitely worried that my boobs might get in the way, but it is not an issue at all. I am now a 32D, which sounded HUGE to me at the time, but they really aren’t. Lifting will feel different, but it will be fun working your way back up!
Anyway, you have probably already had the surgery at this point, so good luck with the recovery! You’ll love them!
Laura says
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It makes me feel better to hear the success stories. 🙂
I’m 3 days into recovery… can’t lift my arms over my head, but I’m moving about alright. Can’t wait to be able to do some cardio!!!
Leah @ Running with the Hayneses says
New reader, and I just happened upon your most revealing blog post ever, I guess! 🙂 I just wanted to say that your gym confessions made me laugh, and I think it’s great that you are transparent and courageous enough to blog about something as personal and private as plastic surgery. I hope it all went well!!
Laura says
LOL! I think you did!
Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting… I promise I write about more than boobs. 😉
