Motivation is a powerful thing.
An upcoming birthday and beachy vacation help.
Something about turning 35 (how did I get that old?!) lit a fire under my ass. I’ve always been good about keeping up with workouts, but I’ve been doing more running lately. I’ve also started doing planks again. The above pic was taken yesterday after a killer leg workout.
Do this workout and try a (very shaky) plank after. For each exercise, do 4 sets of 15-8 reps. Increase the weight each time.
- Leg extensions
- Hamstring curls
- Squats
- Reverse barbell lunges
- Straight leg deadlifts
- Leg press
Running is more fun for me in Atlanta. I love the scenery. The park, the flowers, all the crazy people on the Beltline trail. It’s great.
What you don’t see in the pic from a recent run is the humidity. I swear… running in a steam room would be more comfortable. Backward.
Then there’s the food. As I said, exercise has never been a problem for me. Food… well, let’s just say I love to eat. Meal prepping went by the wayside when Vegas and I moved to San Diego. Why bother when you work from home?
I wasn’t sure I’d get into it again. Now that I’ve been at it for two weeks, I’m no longer worried. It makes life SO much easier and helps me stay on track.
This #WIAW is week 2 of meal prep life.
Be sure to link up to Jenn’s WIAW baby at the bottom!
Breakfast:
As always, I made my morning cocktail before walking to work.
I’ve been bringing my breakfast to work lately. I don’t wake up early enough to have breakfast a home. Eating that early doesn’t appeal to me anyway.
Prepping hardboiled eggs and having apples on hand isn’t hard. It’s certainly healthier than my usual protein bar at the office. What is hard is dealing with the fact that you accidentally threw away one of the two eggs you brought. #fail
Lunch:
Lunch was the Bison Meatloaf Muffins I posted the recipe for yesterday. Plus sides.

Dinner:
Dinner was another pre-made dish: turmeric ground turkey. What I actually at it with was a salad and sweet potato. This is a pic of what I took to work for lunch today. I was starving when I got home and forgot a pic of the actual dinner. Either way, you get the idea.

Vegas is coming tonight! We have Hamilton tickets tomorrow and I am SO excited!
Do you meal prep? What’s your go-to thing to make?
What are you looking forward to this weekend?
Heather McClees says
Eating early is so not my thing either. I feel ya! And ditto on the getting older deal. I can’t believe I am 33! Not that I’m afraid of age. Time just flies! Hope you are doing well!😊
Laura says
It right there with you… I still feel like I’m 20!
Patrick@looneyforfood.com says
Running in the humidity is not fun but great scenery certainly helps. I am not an early morning eater either, I always bring my breakfast to work and usually don’t end up eating it until around 1pm. Meal prep is essential for me and I might just have to add those bison meatloaf muffins to mine!
Laura says
Damn! Even I can’t last until 1 pm. My co-worker does it though (noon most days).
Jess @ Jessica Cording Nutrition says
Bison meatload? Love it—That sounds awesome. Definitely going to go check that out and try it. Cheers to meal prep making a busy week easier. Even though I work from home a lot, I still rely on it to simplify meal times so I don’t spend too much time cooking when I need to be working on a project.
Jess @ Jessica Cording Nutrition says
Haha and by “meatload” I mean “meatloaf.” Best typo ever.
Laura says
Meatload made me snort my coffee. Well-played. LOL!

First of all, as a 43 year old, I laugh at your 35 but I know it seems “old” to you 🙂 I had the twins at 34 so I felt incredibly older at 35 🙂
That leg workout is definitely a killer and I know all too well about trying to hold a shaky plank when your legs are toast. Nice work!!
As for the food, the only thing I think I’m capable of making is your breakfast!
Laura says
Not that it is old… I’m just still 21 in my head. LOL!
You come visit and I’ll make you something crazy while feeding you wine.
Patricia @Sweet and Strong says
Meal prep makes life so much easier! I usually always at least roast some potatoes and veggies and make HB eggs for the week.
Laura says
I finally started doing the hardboil thing. I don’t know why it seems like such a struggle in my head. They’re so easy!
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
I used to keep a knife, a small cutting board and a jar of peanut butter at the office. That and making granola was my meal prepping. 🙂
Laura says
Why does this not surprise me? You kept bananas too, right? 😉
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets says
Of course. That goes without saying.

First of all – how did you throw out an egg by accident? how sad LOL. As for meal prepping, even though I do work from home, I do a fair amount of it (less in the summer since I tend to NOT crave roasted veggies and things – except kabocha, ALWAYS kabocha!!) and more cold salads and such, but it helps between busy workdays to have some stuff ready ahead of time, though I also appreciate being able to make lunch masterpieces at home too!! Truly do not take that for granted. Running in humidity sucks – same here when it gets cooking in the summer, though not nearly as long as you get in Atlanta! (PS 35…sniffle. I’m inching towards 39 – gagggg – in a few months!!). xo
Laura says
It was in a baggie with a paper towel… I thought I’d dumped them all out onto a plate. Notsomuch. It was early… I dunno.
I’m always jealous of your lunches on IG! Makes me miss the work from home days. If I’m honest I was getting lazy with those, too.
You’ll be 39?! Can’t be if we’re twins. LOL!
Nicole @ Laughing My Abs Off says
Look at you with all the meal prep!! I’ve been doing my best to have some manner of prep done just to make meals easy, and it really is a lifesaver, but in the moment, you’re like ughhhhhh.
Also your arms look AMAZING in the plank picture 😀
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
I’ve noticed on your IG that you’ve been going for a lot of runs! Good for you lady. Not sure how you do it with the humidity though.. humidity always kicks my butt! I’m curious where you are going on vacation…?!
Kate says
My friend is seeing the show tonight. Have so much fun!
GiGi says
I am feeling the bison meatloaf muffins! I need them in my face. Like 30 of them. Yes, cause you know I am girl with a LARGEEEEEE appetite!
Laura says
I’d share with you. Maybe. I get all the raw fishes though. Mwhaha!
Deborah @Confessions of mother says
I fell off my meal prep a bit the last 2 weeks but hope to get back on board once all the graduation festivities are over. Oh and after I stuff my face with pizza in Italy next week 🙂
Laura says
I am drooling all over you’re IG this week. So glad you’re having a (delicious) blast!
Joann @ Woman in Real Life says
While I do work from home, I still think meal prep is a good idea. I don’t often actually do it, however. But I think it would encourage me to include more fruits and veggies, etc., if I prepared some early on in the week to munch on.
Laura says
For sure – it’s not even having it there to grab. I just hate wasting money!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious says
For a long time I didn’t meal prep while I was working from home and it was a disaster and I was eating so much crap. I finally realized I had to meal prep if I was going to eat real food.
Laura says
A lesson I should have learned like 3 years ago… LOL!
Jen @ Chase the Red Grape says
How was Hamilton? That show is on the top of my list! I think the nearest place to me that’s showing it is London… So it may be a while!
Nothing worse than throwing out food by mistake. And when it’s eggs too… Made my heart sad for you.
Laura says
It was SO good! I was really wondering if it would live up to the hype. We were not disappointed! Come for a visit when it comes back around next year! 😉
